Pate swap meet.

Post by btalley »

Hello All,
I've never been to this swap meet and I was hoping a few of you could answer some questions. If I was to haul a trailer with some stuff on it would it be a problem to just park in the parking lot with a for sale sign on it. I'm talking a cab or a bed or maybe a whole truck. I wouldn't mind paying to do that, I just don't want to have to mess with pulling a trailer into a spot that may or may not be convenient.

Thanks for any info.

I'd call that number truckerdaddy listed and ask them that question. But I'd ask them if they can accomodate your trailer inside the meet first. Most swaps I go to can support that and access is not an issue. Just good planning.
My Slick is rustier than your Slick! :D

I don't see why not. There's plenty of room up there and they have it organized pretty well. Last year there were a ton of cars, trucks, etc. sitting in the rows on trailers for sale - including a Slick or two. Like the other fellas said, I'd for sure call or get a hold of someone first so you know what you're in for.

At the old Pate swap meet that was held at the Pate Museum, even parking was a problem. It's actually a better idea to get spaces and park on the grounds. I haven't been to that swap meet in many years, since before it was moved, so I can't give you any detailed info on it. I allways like being on the grounds, with spaces, even when I was just going to buy. You get in the grounds earlier, so you are the first one to get to the good buys, and if you buy something heavy you don't have to carry it 10 miles to your truck. Add to that, The time walking and finding a parking space, and if spaces are cheap enough, it's better to be in the swap area. Only problem is getting spaces at all. With a big meet like Carlisle, PA. you had to have your spaces a year in advance, or you were most likely out of luck.

There's hopefully a pretty good sized group of the texas folks that are going to be up there. Iknow for a fact that Skip and Tom will be going. I am going as well.

It's been a couple of years since ive been there. The last three years i did go, they had the swap meet in three different areas at the Texas Motor Speedway. First year, it was in muddy parking area to the north. Next, it was inside the speedway, in the infield area, a real bitch to get a veh. with trailer into, although that was the best swap meet of the 3 ive been to in recent years. Last time i went (2004 or 2005) it was in a muddy parking area on the west side of the speedway. Another problem is they have the swap meet setup for, i dont know, 400-500 spaces of which 1/3 to 1/2 were empty and many spaces were used by people to park their vehicles because the walking distances are unreal. As you may know, this part of the country is C***y country, so there isnt that much Ford stuff. Never say never, but i dont see me going back to pate.

I will be there in fact I have 4 spots right up front this year. I would say get 2 spots back to back then park the trailer and hang the sign. Last year I had to ask one group to move there stuff out of one of my spaces but it wasn't a problem at all. Since I have been going to this (at TMS) there is always spaces availbe. If you for sure want enough space just get 4 spots park trailer in the middle and be done with it.

BTalley.
Send me an e-mail and I'll send you my cell phone number. We'll hook you up with the Texas crew. I might have a buyer for the cab if you bring it along.
Pate is a good time.
