I have left the truck sit for a while, but had a week off in July, and started up where I left off. The wheelhouses welded in really well. They had good thick metal, some "old stock" at the parts place. I put some filler on the joints and sanded it a bit.[/img]ImageImage[/img]

So earlier in the thread, I was using a 390 that I had given to me, the fellow belonged to the 4x4 club and rolled his truck. He also overheated it and blew the head gasket, when I used the motor it made a chocolate milkshake in the oilpan, and was messed up. It was hard to keep interested after doing the work of installing the motor.
I had an idea to put a 460 in it, or rebuild the original 352. I put it to a vote in the general forum and most said 352.
So out went the leaky 390 and in went the 352, with a little more cam, and a performer intake, and a 4100 carb.[img][/img]
The MSD red cap and coil and wires look out of place, but they fired up, and after twisting the distributor a bit , ran OK. No leaks, but I'm not sure where to put the hose from the PCV.[img][/img]

I pulled the truck out of the garage to clean it. Motor and transmission is working. I need to get it inspected, brakes, steering are OK. It needs a windshield, and the headlights. The headlights were missing when I got the truck.Image[/img]Image

Looking Good.

PVC should go into the bottom of the air cleaner, AFTER the filter.

Looking good. BTW, do you still have your 71 429 Mustang? I used to own one myslelf. It was fun car, wish I still had it. Got a few pictures here someplace.

Yes, I still have the 429 Mustang. It is a tire burning machine. It has a C-6 automatic, and 3.73 gears in the 9 inch dif.
I am hoping to get this 66 slick on the road soon. just a few more details , like lights, and inspection.

I have the air breather hooked to clean air. I am using a 74 air cleaner.
The carb doesn't have a PCV inlet for vacuum, and I don't have a spacer with a vacuum nipple, so I just put a "T" in the brake booster line.

The truck came with manual steering, so it didn't need another vacuum nipple.

Then make sure you have vacuum hose rated for oil usage. Oil in a hose not designed for oil will will quickly soften and fail, and you could lose power assist at a critical time.

I would find/make another outlet. You could buy a nipple to thread into your intake manifold and attach both hoses there. Lots safer. :)

I installed some headlight relays today. I viewed the link in the tech section, bought some parts , and started in on it. I used one wire from the battery to power both relays. I put in a fuse and then soldered in a 2 way junction. I assumed black was low beam and red was high beam. It doesn't matter, any way. The relays I got had 5 prongs, but you only use 4, the one with an A after the number, is reversed, and turns things off when energized. NAPA had the halogen lamps in stock, and they are working.Image

While I was wiring, I added a ground strap to the engine.
It is an old battery cable, and I soldered a lug on the other end to hook to the engine.[/img]Image
The paint is scratched on the firewall from trying to get the headers in place. I ended up lifting the motor about 2 inches.
This site is a great help, and I'm close to getting the truck back on the road.

I put a fan shroud on the engine today. When I was timing the motor, it is hard to see the fan, and a shroud will help cooling , too.
I used a junkyard shroud from a newer truck, and it covereg the rad exactly. The mounting lugs were a bit different, but I drilled new holes on the side of the rad flange.

I painted the bedImage yesterday, sanded, primered, sanded, and painted.Image

The voltage regulator has been lowered, so I could run the wires along the top of the rad. The wires from the firewall are now across the front of the rad, too.

Boy that bed looks nice !!! Mine is so dented I think I'm going to have to get creative, since it would take a 100+ hours just to get the dents out.
