65 F100 48K mile original paint truck
I'm going to try and post from my picasa web album some pictures of the 65 truck I've just bought. I hope the link works.

There's more proof for me that there was two different golds used on the 65 valve covers. My 65 project has the same cream color, but red&white is the metallic gold gold. By the way, one of the nicest original examples I've ever seen. Anyone tells you you paid too much you ask them how easy is it to find one like yours in that shape. Worth every penny..IMHO

I may be wrong but I do not really think there are two different colors of gold. I think that in time the gold turns a different color, it is not often that you see a truck with the original gold valve covers. Factors such as heat, cleaning solvents can also affect the color.f100jim wrote:There's more proof for me that there was two different golds used on the 65 valve covers. Michelle, I would agree, but over the years I've seen this cream color on trucks that were run hard, nothing done to them and junked out. And if it was heat or cleaners deteriorating the paint, why is the color still uniform over the whole cover. Not trying to argue. really just want to know. Here's the two colors side by side ....[img][albumimg]7576[/albumimg][/img] [img][albumimg]7572[/albumimg][/img]
Greenindian, are your sunvisors padded vinyl or cardboard ? Wish I could find a green floormat that nice for mine

Congrats Damon. I hope to see it at a local show or maybe you can make a trip to York with it sometime. I know it's too late to register it for the South Mountain Apple Fest but maybe you can swing around to visit us there. I go every weekend as long as it doesn't rain.
Very nice truck in deed.

That truck is like:
Gettysburg? You'll have to come to Wyatt's spring cookout next year with that for sure! He's over in York.
I'm with Jim on the valve covers. My truck has the same weirdo cream colored ones too. I just don't think metallic gold would fade to that color. Consider the truck here in question--obviously not used hard/much so why would the VC's be so 'faded' vs gold ones we've seen on really tired trucks?

Super, super nice truck!! As far as the valve covers go, I've looked at LOTS of old fords in salvage yards and I aint never seen cream colored VC's. Lots of gold, but never cream. Not saying there not out there or genny, but I've just never seen them myself. And I've never seen gold ones change color either, just fade and or get thin. Sweet truck though.
As I mentioned above, I could very well be wrong about it. Your pictures do make a very compelling case that there could be two different colors. The valve covers on my truck were original and they looked gold and not the cream so you well may have a valid point.f100jim wrote:Michelle, I would agree, but over the years I've seen this cream color on trucks that were run hard, nothing done to them and junked out. I know this is an offbrand detour on this thread..but the guy that used to live across the street from my faher inlaw, had an immaculate mid sixties chevy pickup with 7000 original miles..even the rubber was good..this has probably been 8 years ago..no idea what happened to it.. It still amazes me these kind of finds are out there...
