I bought a '61 short bed uni about 2 years ago ($202.50 off of EBAY) and really haven't touched it since. I've done some work getting a 292 rebuild started (59 block, 57 heads and intake, converting to PCV valve, etc). Just having trouble finding time what with racing, kid's wedding, house repairs from a monster hail storm, flooding (I manage a road department with 800 miles of roads, just got our 4th Presidential Disaster Declaration in the last 3 years) and life in general. Feel bad about neglecting the truck.
Took the plunge today! Drove to LMC (4 hours each way, nice drive) and bought rockers, steps, risers and lower door jamb patch panels. Had to pick up a windshield and gasket for the '57 and a new front bumper (going to weld the bolts and smooth the bumper) so I figured it was time to get serious about the uni.
Now I have to get it from a friend's pasture and get it home!
Anyone know if the seat from the '61 will bolt into the '57?
Later!

Gonna start getting serious about '61 Uni.....FINALLY!

Well....after Slick Stock I got home and the guy storing the truck for me needed his space. Went out and brought it home the day after SS4, finally. Got the title put in my name and the truck is all licensed so I don't have to worry about that later.
Car washed the interior twice, then tore out all the interior and washed it again (mostly mouse pee free but still some hiding someplace). De-greased the interior and engine compartment, pretty well got it stripped to a bare shell and ready to start on. Once racing season is over, it goes in the shop for all the patch panels (steps, front cab mounts, step risers, some floor pan pieces, rockers, a few spots of rust), a suspension rebuild, rear brake rebuild, front disc brake conversion, Mustang master cylinder and all new lines. Hopefully have it ready for the 292 by spring (damn, gotta get that put together also). Shopping for that "just right" T-5 (you know the one, perfect condition for nearly free!).
Will try to get a bunch of pics and keep you posted, the goal is SS5 in KC. Want to bring the '61 and the '57 both down there. I thought it might be fun for some of our fly-in friends to have a ride for the cruises so I'm hoping to bring both trucks.
Ripped the T-bird seats out of the '57 and re-upholstered the '61 seat and put it in the '57 today. Sits great and only had to drill 2 holes to mount it.
