It has a 300 in it, w dropped it down, and moved it back some..The truck isn't quite this low..we had trouble getting the wheels to turn without rubbing badly....

I am very cheap and wasn't about to buy special wheels and tires when I had some pristine LTD ones ! hahahhaha

So we raised it up a bit...

Heres my uni-gate after SERIOUS work, the bottom three inchs was GONE, I welded on a thick walled steel pipe, For the bottom...and built the rest up from flat sheet. The junkyard I bought this from had a flat fee then of 40 bucks for a gate, mine should have only cost about 30, due to lack of gate,in the gate !

Much work later I think you'll agree it looks pretty good in primer.

food, do you mind if i ask how you sealed your tailgate? i am already having trouble on the outside where the curvy panels are welded to the tops and bottoms.
it seems like they like to rust from the inside out.
the prettier the lady the more fickle she is. lol

I have always tried to do the following on my parts, grind and sandblast to as clean as possible. then I used to use metal ready, by POR to neutralize rust, now I use ospho... After one of the two rust neutralizers I then either scuff with a scotch pad and paint with por, or spray the etching primer VARIPRIME.. When I started using variprime way back when I thought it was the best thing possible..now possibly there are much better types? maybe the epoxy sealers?

Skip brought up the ospho years ago, and I swear by it now...the way he did then.. I have parts that were sandblasted and have sat, and even been handled..and gotten wet...they seem to be extremly protected from rust...

Also any part that I can't get inside..I am not afraid to plug the holes..tape them,etc. pour ospho inside and slosh it around..wear gloves ,eye protection etc.. When I had the uni on the rotissere I poured ospho in the big torsion box underneath and turned and leaned the truck until it was running out all the cracks and seams... cheap insurance/preventitive.

here are some pics of my uni tailgate on the donor vehicle..NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH !

The bottom was pure disaster the top not so bad..the center piece took some dolly work for sure..I had to make some of the end areas from scratch, and patch it also.

Were you sandblasting? I love (well like) sandblasting ... it makes the parts look brand new.

yes, an old sandblasting picture...If you notice a tube running down from my hood....I had taken an old giant diaphragm type airbrush pump, and ran a hose to my respirator. I can not tell you how nice fresh air from 30 feet away is, when you are buried in clothing ..sand everywhere, sweating and miserable...

cleaned up the inner sides and front of the uni box, then OSPHO'd them tonight...

There are a metric buttload of dents in the floor and wheel wells, I might skim a little metal to metal aluminum putty on the worst areas..there is just no hiding it all.... oh well it will be a light color..hopefully it won't look to sad...

I am thinking I might get the sides of box, and back of cab finished before I paint the box floor, There will be so much walking and crawling around in the box..just do the floor last...

It's really coming along nicely ... BTW, if it makes you feel any better, my bed is worse (in terms of dents). I'm not sure yet how I'm going to fix or cover them up.

Watching your build has me considering stretching a Crn Vic frame and stuffing under my Uni.

i bet a long bed sitting that low would look good shouldnt be too hard to stretch just cut it somewhere bout where the bed starts get your rear wheels and front wheels centered in the wheel wells and buy some thick square tubing

Looking good there foodstick, your truck appears to sit lower on the LTD frame then mine does on the crown vic chassis.
I think it's due to your Uni haveing a higher cab floor, with the modified step that you have. I didn't have to cut anything there to set the cab over the frame rails on my 66 cab, but it sits higher.
