Don't forget to move the sterring column over to the left alitte to center it up on the speedo. But that all depends if you are going to use original sterring. Its a ood look anyway. Just a thought. LEE

move the column

Post by azratrod »

wyatt: ive already done that little trick. i might have seen your earlier post here because i got the idea from this site.

lee: garbz showed me how he moved his column up and over on his dash. it looked so good i couldnt tell he had done it. ill end up doing that too. it will be especially nice due to the fact that i have bucket seats and not a bench. you start to run out of room in those seats if you have to keep sliding over to get centered on the wheel

Here's how I moved mine several years ago. A couple of knuckles and some head scratchin'.
Now its closer to the dash, in the center and angled better.

Tim, I didn't realize how much work you put into that column. That is a real nice job. And yes that instrument panel is cool. Well done pal.
See, I can be nice sometimes. I posted something to you and didn't insult you for a change.
BUT,Look out for the next time

I would like to see some pics of how Z'd a straight axle frame.
There a few things I just couldn't picture in my head.

Zing a frame

Post by azratrod »

as per garbz: slicing the frame at a 45 degree angle right at the firewall area. letting the frame move forward so the over all wheel base will be 115". this will center the wheels in the wheel wells perfectly. once the frame has been slid forward it will be boxed and reenforced at the Zed area. the steering box has to be moved a few inches and an elbow or two added. the front frame horns will need to be notched also so the radiator support can come down a few inches. remember this is all coming from garbzs evil master mind and he makes it look and sound simple. cut at your own risk!

Ahh, I see. See I didn't consider cutting at an angle and allowing the wheelbase to lengthen. Of course he is right it will center the front wheel in the fender better. I am so used to the front wheels like they are on a 61-64 it doesn't cross my mind to change it.
One of the problems with a front Z on these is if you cut it behind the rear spring mount where you "should" you are already under the cab floor.
I'd like to see some pics as he is doing it. Nothing I will be doing right away but I want to see his solutions to some of the "issues". Seriously need to post lots of pics.

Looking good. I can't wait to see some pics of the work being done. I would love to do the BBW swap on mine but have had no luck finding a donor locally.
