Thanks guys! Trukcrazy, we had a few 'bumps' in our extended family as I grew up; they're among my favorite trucks. I watched a guy next door to our church fabricate a 4 door bump over a year or two when I was a kid. The guy still has it.

When you get a chance could you please send me a link to your wheel guy. I would like to see what he has, and can do. my wheels may be a bit mismatched.

Quick update: As usual, when you start tearing into things, your small afternoon project turns into much more. Upon removing the drums, I discovered the fronts were to far gone to salvage, but the rears were good enough to turn. I had two leaky wheel cylinders, one of which had just begun leaking. My son and I flushed the system but the lines still had a little reddish fluid in them, so we decided that we may as well replace them and the master cylinder and upgrade to the dual reservoir. I pulled the master out tonight and discovered that it was in the process of failing. Glad we decided to pull it. I read elswhere on this site just tonight that a '67 f100 master will bolt right in with no mods to the rod length.

My clutch has always chattered if I engage it at anything more than just over idle. My grandfather thought the linkage was worn, but I could never find anything external that wasn't functioning normaly. The clutch is nearly at the end of its adjustment, so I thought I might just go ahead and replace it, figuring I may have a broken spring or (I hope not) a leaky rear main seal. While I was under the truck yesterday, I took a closer look at the mounts at the bellhousing. They are pretty munched! So much, in fact, that I can easily spin the lower insulator on one side and slide the other up and down on the bolt. New mounts are on order! Hopefully, that will take care of the chatter.

I'm hoping to get by the powder-coaters to pick out the color for the rims I hope to order this week. Has anyone using 15x8's out there had to use spacers or have them offset? My stock wheels seem awefully close to the bed. I have yet to take any measurments.

BTW Thanks, Fire truck, for clearing up the radio mystery! That's not the only non-oem part I found on this truck. The best was the Chrysler muffler my grandpa had wired to the chassis.

glad you checked everything out in time. I love this thread.
If you are using the morro bay co you turned me on to, they have a how to on one of their pages, but you are close enough to drive it on over and have them custom fit or is it non op?

I had most of the day to play with the truck today. Most of this morning was spent chasing parts, but this afternoon I began running brake lines. My son worked ahead on his school work yesterday so that he could hang out in the garage with me. Bending the lines was no problem, but learning to double flare the ends correctly was a little tricky; I'll be checking closely for leaks. I switched tasks when I ran 8' short on the feed to the rear axle. :evil:

We hardwared up the front right brakes and packed the bearings. I was hoping to get farther, but at least we made some progress! The family was hungry so after I cleaned the grease off my hands, we went out the eat.

I found a few more pictures on my wife's camera. I purchased some white inserts from Dennis Carpenter and replaced the broken or missing pieces in my dash knobs a few weeks ago. The other picture is of my oldest helping me flush the brake lines last week.

Love the truck. I like your idea of the blue wheels. My sons 58 has blue wheels much like you described doing. No beauty rings yet, but we are getting them. Your blue is very close to our blue. We used Summits Cobalt blue. The truck will be satin black with blue interior and accents. The motor is a 292 with tripower carbs. We also used the blue again on the rocker covers. It's not a Slick but it is a classic Ford.ImageImageImage

ns3Racing: I like the "fridge" trucks. I think my favorites are the '57s. There are a few around here that I've been watching for a future project when my oldest is ready. Looks like we found the same can of spray paint, that color is very close to what I sprayed on my right side wheels.

Gregg: Glad to see you moving forward after the set back with the pine tree. Looking forward to watching the progress.

I'm still working on the brake system as I have time. We are busy at work when the rain and cold weather get here. I'm nearly done with the rear circuit. I have tried to locate a parts vendor that has the correct motor mounts, but it appears there has been a run on them; no one has any in stock! It may be several weeks before I see a set, so I'm not in a great hurry to finish the brakes anyway. Below is a picture of one of the munched mounts I'm relacing. I hope this takes care of the clutch shudder!

It has been a while since I've posted here. The rainy season is our busiest at work, so the time I've had to work on the truck has been very little these last two months. I am about 10 inches away from having the brake lines finished so we should soon be able to fill and bleed the system then check for leaks.

After thinking about it for a while, I've decided to keep the stock rims. The tires were dismounted last weekend and the rims taken to a powder coater here locally. I put the tires up for sale on craigslist and they sold in a half an hour. I purchased some ribbed trim rings and baby moons from Wheelsmiths in the Los Angeles area; Early Wheel Co didn't have any baby moons that would fit my "gennies." The rims were finished today and my wife took them to American West Tire where my new Firestones were waiting to be mounted. By the time I got home from work, the caps and rings were waiting for me too! I stood one up near my rear drum to see what it will look like.

The white rim is the spare; the others didn't look this bad.

My motor mounts finally got here too. It won't be long now before it emerges from the garage once again!

I ordered the steering wheel from LMC Truck. I don't remember what brand it was. You may be right.

My grandpa worked for ARCO and had access to drip, which I think is some kind of crudely refined fuel. He installed an auxiliary tank in the bed to fill with it. He put in the valve and ran a fuel line through the floor by removing the plug in the factory seat belt hole near the tank. Running drip may be why he had to overhaul the engine at about 110k, but that's just my theory. I remember playing on that tank when I was young, but it was removed years ago.

I got her back on two wheels the other night! Also got the new engine mounts installed, which was a little more challenging than I had thought. The old ones where shot! Looking at the old next to the new revealed how munched the originals really were. Another couple hours should have the brake system completed, that is if I have no leaks.
