i beam bushing question

Hey guys, I am trying to install some new prothane I beam pivot bushings. There was no directions with these bushings, so I assumed it would be a simple install. Once I started to put them in I realized I'm not sure if this metal sleeve stays on the beam, or do I drive it out. The bushing will go into this sleeve ( it's a tight fit ), but I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. If I put the bushing in, the beam is not centered on the bushing. If that sleeve stays in, do I have the bushing oriented in the right direction, or do I need to swap sides. If that sleeve needs to come out, does it matter which way the bushing goes in? I know I'm kinda rambling, but I'm trying to make some sense! LOL

It's been a while since I did mine but the metal sleeve stays in and I think your bushing needs to go in from the other side If I remember correctly. You may have to put a little lube on the bushing to get it in.

Thanks Randy. That worked and I have them both in.

Yay!! Congrats! Did you put urethane bushings on the radius arms too? I put them everywhere I could when I converted my 66 to disc brakes. I also added a front sway bar from a 76 F250 and got urethane bushings for that.

I would SERIOUSLY recommend the urethane radius arm bushings on ANYTHING with Twin I beams or Twin Traction Beams (the 4x4 version of Tiwn Is).
I put these in my 92 Explorer that used for a route truck (240,000 miles worth) and they made a world of difference in how the alignment held, how straight it stopped, tire wear, and how it tracked when locked into 4WD.

Yeah I bought the full suspension/body mount bushing set. So I guess I'll be replacing all the old rubber stuff.

Did a similliar job on my Bump. Metal bushing stays in.

Thanks BMJ. I got the bushings in and the beams installed. Wasn't too bad. I may have a problem with the leaf spring bushings though. Just comparing the bushing to the spring opening, it's gonna be a tight fit!
