Jake's '62 Uni Long Bed

Honestly...it just hopped on the trailer and followed me home! The rebuilt engine, engine stand and cherry picker jumped in also! Plus, an extra hood, extra door and extra rear bumper. I need a seat & headliner plus a few other items, though...

Now the fun begins!!!

It had been a while since this Uni has been on the road. The license plates on the front & back are from 1973!

I wonder is I should go through the brakes & fuel system???

I drove over 70 miles to Mesa, AZ to get the Uni. The funny thing is, the guy I got it from, bought it in my area!!!

Jake that sure is a clean lookin Uni . I dont think theres that much rust free metal between both of my uni's . I do find it funny how many of our trucks come to us with those rims on them . My 63 long uni has the same exact rims on it .

I am planning on this being a nice, clean driver. My trucks all have to earn their keep!

When I saw those wheels on this Uni, I told the PO that I have the same rims on my 1986 F150 Super Cab. They gotta go! What are to going to end up with on yours? I was thinking Smoothies, old Keystone Classics or slotted Ansens.
The tailgate is rusted on the Uni along with a little perferation in the floor panels by the kick panels. The PO told me he got a quote from a body man of $200.00 to repair the tailgate and have it ready for paint. Not too bad considering a new one is $400.00 I believe plus shipping.

Jake for now I have a set of chrome 16" ford pickup rims . Those will get her rolling although I am leaning towards a full set of 20"ers or 18"ers up front and 20's out back in the end . I would say if you can get that gate paint ready for less than 2 picks of Ben I would go that way as I am sure the original is heavier guage metal than the repops.

The tailgate will probably get repaired for the reasons you state. Cheaper to repair and heavier than the imports, from what I undersand.

It sounds like you are going for the HO Slot Car look for your truck with the size wheels you are wanting to use. Should look great!

I am hoping to get the engine installed in the next few days. I have been installing the items that hang on the outside for the last two days. You gotta love the simplicity of the old sixes!

The original fuel pump has the old sediment bulb on it and I would like to overhaul it. Does anyone know where I can get a kit for it? I am thinking about trying NAPA.

The tank will be taken to a radiator shop for a good boiling. Boy, does that thing smell NASTY! I got a new radiator with the Uni, so there is an expense I do not need to worry about. Just need hoses (radiator & heater), new clamps and fuel gauge sending unit.

The Uni was originally Teal/White, but I am reluctant to do those colors. There are a lot of Slicks out there with that scheme and I am thinking of doing something different. Maybe a yellow/cream two tone or metallic bright blue/pearl white. Any suggestions? It will be a while before it is ready for paint, so there is plenty of time to decide.
