64 LWB Freshening up

Post by TopherGreen »

Whats up guys and gals I am new to the site but not so new to the slicks. I am supposed to bringing my truck to my house from my parents in a week or 2. It has been sitting in a field for about 5 years :( I have had the truck for almost 20 years, my grandfather gave it to me when he past. I originally half way restored it when I turned 16 (rebuild motor, paint, interior and other small odds and ends) I drove it for about 4 or 5 years after that then it sat off and on for the next 10 years. I really hope the rust is at a managable level, I know the paint is starting to come off the top and probably some other spots that are camo'd by dust. My plans are to freshen it up a bit with disc brakes, points elmination, headers (I got to get rid of the manifolds  ) I have a long list of small things that I will share as they come up. I will be painting it also not sure if I will go with the color thats on it or change it completly again.
Talk to you soon,
Chris

Welcome from Louisiana. Looks like you have a good base from which to work. Hopefully not too much rust.

Great, looks like you have a lot of patching material there on the ground ! (metal roofing)

One time some friends and I stripped down his 67 mustang fastback to redo the quarters, they were solid putty over aluminum
WOOD GRAINED house siding :)

The previous owner was no bodyman, but he was a H*LL of a sculpter !

Thanks Guys.

Foodstick, I love finding suprises like that although I haven't ever found wood as a body panel I had a Jeepster that was pretty bad. The previous owner thought instead of trying to pop some dents and dings he would use about 60 lbs of filler and make his own body lines and get get rid of ones he didn't like. Needless to say I spent about 3 days and countless flap disc trying remove his work, its was litterally 3/8" thick in spots. My truck only has one spot of filler on the side of the bed and its about the size of my hand.

I have been looking around for 4 barrel intake options, are there any others out there besides the Blue Thunder? Preferably cheaper.

The 9425-B four barrel manifold (for the larger carbs 56-57 I believe) is pretty good. Guy over on Y-Blocks Forever site tested it against the Blue Thunder and John Mummert's new aluminum manifold and it did very well -- especially for the price. They usually run about $150 or so on e-bay.

Well its home, it took little longer than expected but thanks to my neighbor and his trailer its here. I need a vin decode I am wondering if the cream color that it was is the original color. Here is a pic of the vin tag.

Well its been a while since I posted, I was laid off for close to a year so progress was halted. I have since started back on the Slick. Its been taken down to the frame and I acid washed it. Its a whole lot cleaner than I expected but I am still going to sandblast it and the body in the next couple of weeks. The bed is rusted through at the front but solid other than that. The cab is in pretty good shape just a few small spot and the drip rail on the passenger side is rust through. I don't know how I am going to tackle that one yet. I am researching rewiring I don't know what route I will take with that either. I found out that my truck was a special order with a non Ford paint color. Any ideas on how to find out what that color is? I will keep updating as I progress.
