Spring Retainer Question

Today I was under my '65 checking out the leaking power steering box shaft seal and noticed that my springs didn't have any kind of spring retainers other than some J type hooks on the beams that hooked into a pocket on the frame. Was there ever any kind of retainer on the top or bottom of the coils on the '65 year models other than the hooks?

The small hook at the top is pretty much it!, the bottom is held in by the hat shaped thingo and the other bit!, have a look at this,

Thanks for the link Alan. Looks like mine just the J hook I've got circled. The hat shaped thing just sits on top of the bolt that holds the radius arm to the I Beam. I might just put some kind of strap across the top coil to hold it to the bucket for some added protection.

Jeremy, I don`t know what that "J" looking thing is, but the top of the spring has a saddle clip that bolts to the top of the bucket ( not shown), Hawkrod is on tonight, He`ll know!

The J hook limits the travel of the I beam thus keeping the spring from falling out. I would just hate for that to fail. Mine doesn't have the hook on the top bucket, maybe the PO removed them...

which 65 are we talking about Jeremy?, 2wd or the 4wd, as mine don`t/didn`t have that J bolt, mine are both 2wd

my 65 had the J hook. I think newer trucks had the strap on top.
