fuel tank dip tube

Has anybody had the dip tube replaced on the fuel tank that fits behind the seat. Mine is clogged and maybe damaged. The tank I have is from a newer truck.

There should be a fuel filter sock on the end of the tube. Pull the sending unit out. It's on the end of the sender.

36 truck , this does not apply to the slicks. the pickup tubve is seperate from the tank sending unit. These will rot off or become clogged on occasion. It may be possible to rod out the tube if clogged although, I did not have much luck doing this on the one I tried it on. It won't work, if the tube has rotted thru somewhere. You might try the rodding thing. I used something like a coat hanger or wire of some sort. From what I could see, the tube have a bend at the bottom, and I could not make the bend. One thing to remmember, is these tanks were used in both small trucks a most of the larger ones. If you have to find one, this might make it easier. You can also buy a new one, but price is high, nearly 300$. I think I saw one on Evilbay listed under for truck. You might check that out. If, you don't live to far from me ( Carmi, Illinois ) southeaastern part, I may have a good one, or be able to help you locate one.

My tube was stopped up with varnish. Be very careful with this. I pulled my tube and poured small amounts of muratic acid into it. Let it set and took a piece of wire cable, chucked in a drill at LOW speed and worked the cable up and down inside the tube. Mine took several tries to break through all of the junk, but it is nice and clean now. I also washed the inside of my tank with acid. Remember to flush with LOTS of water afterwards.
