t"he only appreciable advantage that I'm aware of in the cruise-o is that it has a tail pump-- so supposedly, it's one of the very few automatics you could actually push-start in a crisis. "
Lets clear up a few misconceptions here. The cruisamatic that you are refering to is out of say mid50-62or 63tbirds. its called a medium case cruisamatic. Yes that has a rear pump and can be push started above 35mph. Chances of finding one are slim doable but slim. Most of us consider the FMX to be a Cruisamatic. though it is relative of one its not quite the same. It has no rear pump thus no push starting. If you rebuild it with brass clutches and hard bands you could consivably drive it under water then drain the water out of the unit and converter and never hurt it. You can abuse them to extremes and never hurt them. ive seen them droped into reverse at 35 mph and never miss a lick.
For the rest of us that use the term cruismatic we have to remember that the C4 and C6's though are cruisamatics thus the "C" they are not and I repeat not in the same ballpark as the FMX that we have all gotin to know. The FMX (Ford motors Experimental) was used from about 64 -mid 80s and was finally discontinued because could not find a way to brake it regularly. The one part in it that was vulnerable was the thrust bearing in the forward planet. Unfortunatly when it blew it took most of the trans with it. That doesnt mean that they didnt quit but when it did it usually meant that they were run low on fluid too long or were run with water. I can count on one hand with fingers left how many just blew up or were caused by miss use and abuse.

wylie sorry i didnt call saturday. that ole truck of my gave me all kinds of trouble sat. couldnt get it to start....
I had a for sale sign in it and it was in there for a joke. well someone did stop by. i bought the truck for a decent price i think for it to be an old truck and to have brand new set of tires that cost $400.00. so anyways some guy was walking up the street and wanted to know whos truck it is and how much I wanted for it....well told him i had to have what i had in it. well the guy offered me $950.00. which isnt know where near what i gave for it.
So you guys have seen my truck. If you was going to buy a truck like mine how much would u give for it.....
thanks for the feedback....

Glad to have you. Now, the cast iron case Cruise-O-Matic is a tough transmission. Have an experienced rebuilder go through it for you. He will know if you can add clutches and steels to your unit. I ran one a lot of years behind a street/race motor. I think the servo can be beefed up also but not sure. The C-6 is another alternative. You wont go wrong with the C-O-M. I loved the way you could start off in low range, wind it out then shift to drive then immediately back to low. Those things will hold second gear till hell freezes over. Good luck.
