newbie with 63 f250

Hello all. I've lurked over your site for sometime while looking for a slick. Finally found one. Decent shape. Has a camper special bed, also in decent shape.

Driving this beast home, found the generator isn't charging battery. After looking over the past posts, hopefully this won't be a problem much longer. I'll attempt either a rebuild or changing to alt set up. Lots of good info here.

Has a rebuilt I6. Not sure of the size/type. Needing an air cleaner. 4 sp in the floor. You can start from a dead stop in 2nd gear.

Brakes are drum. But, they'll stand you on your head if your not careful applying pressure. Learned that the hard way!

All the gauges work! Doesn't over heat. Doesn't seam to burn oil. For 44 years old, darn good truck!

Gonna have to get some tires. Has the original hub caps.

This newbie just decoded the VIN on the ole f250.

F25 = f250
J = 223, 1V, 114hp, 3600 R.P.M.
G = Assembled in Chicago
240651 = Dec. 1961

Color = L - Holly Green
Blue right now

Transaxle:
F26 = Dunno
Transmission i believe is a T98 Borg Warner 4-sp

Engine: EBP-6015-L
EBP = 223, 1V, 114hp
6015 = Ford engine block
L = Dunno

Rear End/Gear
Forgot to write that one down.

My title says 1963. VIN on truck and title are the same, previous registration shows same VIN with the year as 1963.

Always surprising what you can find on-line.

Dwight, good to have you along, you got the right place here @ Slick 60s for sure.

That first run home is always a "giggle" like any shake down cruise, but doing it an a 40+year old vehicle goes to show what you got a hold of. How many folks buy a thing like that and end up carting home on a trailer, chariot, tow bar or chain? Sounds like you got a Solid Slick there, CIAO.

In the FWIW dept, go for the Alternator and forget the generator.
Your engine is most likely the 223 I-6 old standard FoMoCo engine.

FBp
