Fender to firewall rubber strips?

Post by qwertyd10n »

Hey everyone,

My truck is missing the rubber "strips" that seal the fenders and firewall so as not to allow and road grime, water, rocks, etc get throw up from the front wheels into the engine compartment. These are the strips that are "stapled" to the fenders, not the straps that hold the fender to the firewall.

Anyway, I hope I've described what I'm talking about well enough... What I'm wanting to know is where I can buy replacements or in absence of replacements being available, some ideas as to what I could use as a substitute? The material needs to be stiff enough to hold it's shape, but not too stiff or thick.

Let me know.

Cheers,
Dion

Can't buy replacements.

Several have used rubber tire innertubes.

I left mine off when we put my truck back together, cause we were in a hurry and didn't have the time to fool with it. Now my driver's side fender rattles.

Dion. If you can find someplace that sells industrial gaskets (like for chemical plants, manufacturing facilities and the like) buy some 1/8" neoprene sheet and make your own.
Looks pretty cool with SS boat style trim washers and screws for attachment.
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

It is the same material used in flexible exhaust hangers. Get a couple of those and cut to size. I just took this picture last night when I removed the front end so you can see what they look like.

Mike.
He's talking about the rubber at the top of the inner fenders that seals off the top. Those you're showing are available from LMC, Carpenter and others.
Happy Thanksgiving ya'll.

Hey Uncle Skip,

Not sure I know what boat style trim washers are... Can you give me an example?

Rubber strips

Hey I am replacing mine too. I have the old ones and what I thought I would do is cut new ones out of a cheap black rubber floor mat. :)

i'll bet he is talking about those cupped washers that the screw or bolt heads nestle in.
