So it appears that i have another option in lowering the front of my '66. By swapping the spring pockets from my 1/2 ton to those of a 3/4 ton (F250/350 I take it) i am able to achieve a 4-5" drop. Now I can understand the concept, but i dont know the difference between the two. So if someone could please educate me visually i would appreciate it lol.
Also, for those who have achieved this, what years can I utilize for the swap? Do I continue to use my existing springs? And once the swap is made is there anything else I would have to modify to compliment the change?
*As always pictures are greatly appreciated...
Thanks,

Im not sure the spring pockets are different, Im sure someone else will be able to shed more light on that but from memory I think they are the same hieght, just use a different spring rate. The problem with lowering a twin I beam settup is you run out of room with factory beams, they cant go up past the frame. The drop beams give you more room by placing the kingpin up higher allowing the i beams to swing below the frame. I have had a slick on DMJ Beams and I can say it drove ok, but not great. I would look at the Crown Vic frontend to have a nice fairly inexpensive very drivable settup, thats the long term goal for my uni. Good Luck!

I have swapped F100 I beams into a F250 frame and there was no obvious difference as far as I noticed. F100's ride a bit lower anyway. I did use the F250 coils. I sawed off 1 coil and re-bent the remaining top coil to fit the F250 upper spring pocket. But that was primarily due to different year i. e. 1978 F250 in a 1966 F100. My 66 frame was shot so I had no choice. Everything else bolted up and the truck still sits an inch or so higher than a regular F100. I'll fix that with 15 inch rims and low profile tires. Don't like a really low truck anyway. I think that if you need to seriousl lower your truck you should "clip it" with a clip of your choice and budget. IMPO!
