I changed all 4 shocks

Post by bmcgc »

What an adventure.

Im guessing the shocks were 25+ years old. Im owner #4, owner #2 had the truck for 44 years.

I had to cut the fronts off, the rears were easier but I had been PB blasting them for a week.

The old shocks were rusted beyond recognition but there was a rubber boot that said "Allstate". I think that was Sears and I have no idea how long ago the Allstate brand name went away.

One step closer to being a reliable DD.

When you changed the rear shocks did you replace one at a time? how did you support the truck while changing them. did you support the truck frame and the axle?

The springs support the truck, the shocks only dampen the movement of the body when you go around curves or over bumps.

I removed all 4, then went and cleaned 46 years of crud off me and went about installing the new ones.

How does it ride with the new shocks? What brand did you install? This is something I need to do on my 62.

I went with the $20 Monroematics. The old shocks were shot. Ruby rides like a Caddy now!

Im not sure if Im going to lower or not, it may be a year or two before I decide so I needed something now.
