dropped off the 66 frame today...

Post by Bill W »

To Steve @ IC Industrial Chassis to use for mock up for the Dakota Kits.... Had lunch with our favorite trouble maker, Garbz.... then stopped by Kevin's to pick up a tilt forward hood kit for my 66 :D I think tomorrow i will get started with the install. In a few weeks i hope to have the 390 back from MachineWorks after a total rebuild, Will be backing it up with a C6 auto, doing Power Steering while i am in there. Top it off with some AC and i will be a happy camper!

Bill, It was good to see you yesterday. After you left,I cleaned up my mess in the trailer, got lazy after that and didn't get a doggone thing done the rest of the day. Oh well, I guess I needed the rest.
Call me if you have a any questions about putting that hood kit on. I think that you will find it real easy to do.

Bill, that sounds like quite a plan. I realize that's not the reason you were there, but did Steve give any indication when he might have the complete cross member available for the 61-64 trucks?

Steve does have kits ready to go... 61-64 only. AND they are sweet looking!

he will be working on kits for the 65-66 trucks in the near future.

I was thinking that he was planning to offer a "complete" install kit with all the suspension pieces included, not just the cross member. Guess not yet.

Any ideas as to the 65-6's being in the same price range as the 61-4's? Also, whats the plus on using the Dakota as opposed to the CV or other donar clips?

G'n'G: I'm thinkin' you can find donor parts for a dakota on CL cheaper than IC would be able to sell them to you??

No idea on 65-66 pricing, best to go straight to the source rather than speculate:)

Advantages:
Track width is VERY close to stock, so it fits, using "normal" offset wheels (which is not the case with the CV)

It's a lil more burly than MII, meaning you can still use your truck as a truck:)

James: That may be true, but not necessarily so. I remember a few years back when it was cheaper to buy the disc brake brackets and source the remainder of the parts yourself. Now it's cheaper to buy the full kit and have all new parts.

I have been away from this site for a while now but I see this thread and a few others pop up from time to time on my website stats.

There is no way I am going to offer a hub to hub kit for some time. And when I do, they will not be cheap-o crapola. Almost everything you get from a sub-$2K IFS kit is going to be bargain basement Chinese junk at best. You get what you pay for, sorry to say. I want to provide quality North American made parts and be able to offer you something that will last more than a few thousand miles and if anything does break or wear out, you can find replacement parts easy enough.

I have been staring at the donor frame Bill W dropped off. Currently I am up to my elbows in 51 Chevy truck.

Sorry to pollute your blue blood board, but wanted to show you guys the quality I am trying to put into my product. 8)
