Thinking about cobbling up a/c

Post by dotcentral »

This may have been covered elsewhere, but I'll ask anyway.

I have been debating about putting an under dash a/c on my 66. Not wanting to cut up the dash or ditch the factory heater. Based on the online measurements I found (approx. 14" deep, 16" wide, 6" tall +/-), the vintage Mark IV looks like it would hit the bottom of the heater & blower, unless I have it sticking out several inches past the dash. I'd like to keep 3 across seating.

thought I read on here someone put a mustang or maybe it was the Rotunda type of under dash a/c on their truck. If anyone here has used one of these setups, wondering how it went. Money, headaches, modifications to the truck, a/c set up, etc.

I realize there would be the addition expense of getting hoses, compressor, pulleys, brackets, and so on but the "typical new under dash units don't look like the will fit they very well. Photos would be great.

I think that just about all the Ford under dash units and also period after market under dash units will physically fit. Just find you one that you like and go for it. I have a Fridgette brand unit that i just took out of my 65 that i will send you for shipping. I still havent made up my mind if i really want ac in my truck or not. If i do i have two other units that i like better as i just dont like the looks of the fridgette unit all that much. I have seen the under dash units from 65-66 mustangs in same year trucks and they look real good.

At the bottom of each person's reply, there are little buttons that read PM, PROFILE, mine has an EMAIL one. Some people have them for websites.

I sent you a pm (private message) since I don't have your email. If you look at the top where the there are words like Topic, Search, Memberlist, etc. There is one that is for Messages. Yours should say you have 1 new message, because I sent you one. Or if you don't want to mess with that, can you click the email thing at the bottom of my post? It should let you email me.

Hope this helps.
