Engine swap

Post by MTf100 »

Hello everyone, I have a 1961 unibody big back window that I pulled from my aunts back yard and did a engine swap......1984 300 straight 6 (carb), original motor was gone. My question is do I need to use the ECM as I have every thing hooked up and it runs but I cannot get the alternator to charge. I have checked all the obvious reasons such as the alternator, relays, etc... I am wondering if the ecm even needs to be installed. Any suggestions would help, thanks in advance.

I had an 81 with a 300 6, I didn't have any ecm. The alternator did need an external voltage regulator. I don't think anything changed significantly between 81 and 84.
SBC is a defunct phone company, not an engine option.
