'74 brake hoses too short for '66 f100

Post by SAD66 »

I just installed a 74 disc brake front end on my 66 f100. I purchased new brake hoses for a 74 from Pep Boys but they are too short to clip into the stock 66 brackets by about 2". Do I need to buy a different year hose, build a new mounting bracket, or have custom hoses made? The ones I bought are 18 1/2", in the Dennis Carpenter catalog they say they're 19 1/2", but they could stand to be 20 1/2". Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

When I did my conversion I had to move the mount bracket out from the frame at least an inch. It's pretty simple to do: I cut a spacer from a piece of square tubing the distance I needed to move the bracket, put it between the frame and bracket and just used a longer bolt to hold it to the frame. Works like a charm. Your metal lines will, of course, have to be moved to match the new location.

When I did my swap I took the hoses down to NAPA and we matched them to a longer set that had the same fittings on each end. I think the ones I found that worked ended up being from a Dodge van from the 70's or 80's.

I've sense swapped them for stainless lines that I ordered from Summit.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'm going to try and find some longer ones first.
