a little progress of my own.

Post by Uncle Skip »

Finally got around to recovering my Rod Doors headliner that had started to sag because I used cheap contact cement, and it finally looks the way its supposed to.
I also found the correct dome/ map light for our trucks.
Its out of a Crown Vic and fits perfectly in the hole I cut for the other map light that I butchered up. I'll shoot some pictures so you can see what I mean today.
BTW, installing a R/D headliner is really a two man job.
Now, if I can just get BroncoTom to help me put it back in..... :D
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Unc the dome/map light out of my crownvic is one of the things I saved as I thought it might go nice in my truck and it much like the rest of the car was in mint condition :D.

What BroncoTom said. Actually, he pointed out that the body is getting ready to be painted and suggested that we wait so the headliner doesn't get ruined during the process. That and the fact that when he got there it was over 117 inside Paradise.
Thanks anyway Tom.

Here is the Rod Doors headliner recovered professionally in my original grey tweed, and the Crown Vic dome light. I'm not using the heavy black plastic mount that comes with the light but rather drilled three holes in the housing you see here and screwing it directly to the head liner.
Did I mention it completely covers that ugly ass hole I cut for the last dome light?
I shot the housing with SEM plastic primer and then with a silver grey color..... It matches the little Neon console I put in the floor that is now also painted the same silver.
It fits beautifully but I won't mount it until we put the headliner back in first.

Progress is a wonderful thing. Cooled down below 100 today so I got the tail light housings, rear fenders and hood painted.
Finally, I'll be shooting the final coat of white high build this week and then the bed will be ready to finish with color.
All this minor shit is killing me, but it has to be done in sequence.
Lord, I love this hobby.

JC. Don't use the regular store bought cement. It might actually work up in the great white north, but in Texas the heat caused it to go tits up and start sagging.
The companies that sell automotive and commercial fabrics and vinyls have a rattle can specifically for head liners. And when you do it, don't be stingy with the cement. Wet her down.
Finally, use one of those little plastic rollers that are used to press down Fat Mat and other insulation products.

Tom. Yes, its out of a Dodge Neon standard shift.
The shifter boot even fit my Lokar shifter exactly. I cut the end off of it and turned it around so I could have the cup holders next to the seat, then I used door edge guards to finish up the edges I cut. I don't know what year, but there are about eleventy million of them out there. I paid $5.00 American for mine.
