BED SIDE SEALER???

i was working on the 64 this past weekend.
what can i use to seal the top and bottom portion of the bed..



i was working on the tubs and i got a lil carried away with the plasma.. the heat around the area cause the paint to bubble and the sealer that joints the two pieces came off..

i need some opinions on guys that have worked on this area..

1.should i just remove the whole sealer from the whole bed and add it new??
2. should i just fix the areas that got affected??

Eddie Kevin aka kstone63 used 1/8" round rod as I recall on his seam and welded it up and smoothed it out so it blended all the way down . You can see his truck down in the projects and builds section it is one sweet magazine feature inducing truck .

Eddie I started my build thread maybe a year ago and honestly it has only really picked up any speed in the last 2 months . There are some sweet builds down there that we havent seen any work on in months or longer but we know when the owners get back to them there will just be some more killer ideas put out there and done up in metal . Look for the Money pit from Redsrodshop for one example of a truck that has already been featured in a magazine and isnt even half finished yet .

Personally, I would clean the joint out the entire length of the bed, then epoxy prime, followed by a 2K seam sealer.........

It was 3/16" rod that I used in that joint. It isn't that hard to do. The welding doesn't get too much warping in the metal because you can keep the heat on the rod instead of the metal panels.
It really looks nice when it is finished but very few people even notice that it is done. Most people don't look that far or don't know that is isn't the normal way.
It was worth the extra work for me. I would do it again for sure.

def gonna look into the rod idea..
and plan b looks like it will be removing whats left and replacing everything with a good seam sealer. like james mentioned..

have you guys heard of the metal filler..
i used it once years ago.. to fill the gap on a 67 f100 bedside.. seemed to work fine.. but then again that project was sold before i got to really drive the sucker

rick-yea there is alot of good build threads here.. very good stuff.. im doing a budget build(i got another two projects im working on as well...an there all money pits no matter what the theme is..lol..)..

If you choose to use a "metal" filler, I would strongly recommend "Belzona 1111".
It is more durable and easier to work with than the over the counter stuff.
It is also very expensive but well worth it.
If you're handy with a welding setup, it's probably a better option.you could also lay the rod in and finish with Belzona as needed. I buy my Belzona from an eBay seller.
