Changing freeze plugs yourself?

I have 1966 ford F100 and it needs freeze plugs. A kit is like $10-$20. I watched videos and have read plenty on it. I want opinions of doing it yourself or taking to a mechanic?? And steel rubber or brass??

I say do it yourself. Not that hard on a slick especially if it is a six. I have installed hundreds over the years. Life will be a lot easier with one of these. I have had one for 30 years and it has saved me hours.

Personally I would use brass. They seem to seal better than steel and are easier to install. I still use sealer on them although there will be people that don't believe in it. I use Permatex #80019
Rubber is just a patch job.

DIY in my humble opinion. I'm not that great at mechanical stuff and I've done 'em with no issues. Not on the slick, but on other vehicles over the years.

Thanks guys...hubby says its too difficult. He doesn't have the patience I do. Hell I've raised seven kids while he's gone 5-6 days a week. If he will pull the motor I got this!!! Lol

You go girl. You can do it.
If the motor is out it is as easy as falling out of bed. You can install them with an old socket.

just make sure to clean the hole with sandpaper or wire wheel on a de grinder before putting in the plug. Brush Aviation form a gasket onto the plug and hole and hammer it in straight, just watch not to hammer it in to far.
