interchange/ lowering/ staight axle for a 64 f100

Post by econorod »

ok got a question, looking at diff ways of lowering my 64 f100. just saw on hamb that the front axle out of a 62 one ton is a direct bolt in and a 3 inch drop. has any one heard of this? also what leaves would you pull off the front to safely lower it?

My understanding is the 1/2T & 3/4T axles are the same, BUT the spindles & brakes are different on 3/4T.
The 1 ton axle is different than the 1/2T/3/4T, AND uses a larger OD kingpin, so the 1/2T spindles will not work on 1T axle, please post a link to the thread on the HAMB, would love to read how this all works (for real, as I have a '64 M-350)

If you can find a spring shop in your area - a place that does suspension work on trucks, they might be able to reverse the spring eyes for starters. Then there's de-arching the springs which could limit your suspension travel.

I sent my '62 Uni axle to Sids and he dropped it 3". However, with the tire I have the axle is very close to the ground and I can't even fit a jack under it. Eventually I will have to put a taller tire on. Defeating some of the purpose.........

If I could do it over, I would not drop the axle more than 2", and maybe go with mono-leaf springs.

How low do you want to go?

I Have The Reverse-Eye Mono's On My 64'. They Will Give You 4-1/2" Drop Up Front & 6" Drop In The Rear. Direct Bolt-On, No Tie-Rod Blocks, No C-Notching Or Cutting Of The Bed Was Required....
