Explorer rear disc brake conversion
Explorer rear disc brake conversion
Has anyone attempted the Explorer rear disc brake conversion on a '64 F100 9" rearend?
Re: Explorer rear disc brake conversion
So....you are going to put rotors and calipers off an 8.8 on to a 9 inch rear?
That sounds interesting. Haven't thought of doing that but it would seem possible.
Anyone make a conversion for that? Plenty of those 8.8s out there, that is for sure.
I'd be interested to see if this would work. TR

Just found this link in my bookmarks, had forgotten it was there:)

I can also tell you that a friend of mine used the Explorer stuff on a 9" under his '29 Essex Coupe, but he had to tig weld plugs into the holes in the Explorer backing plates, and then re-drilled theExplorer backing plates to match the 9" housing flange bolt pattern.

Well I'll be, that is a nice conversion. Just curious about what the
price on that through Currie or Ford would be.
Speedway sells a rear disc brake kit for a 9 inch with E-brake calipers for $449.
Only thing is it only comes in 4.5 or 4.75 bolt patterns.
Not good if you want to run the larger bolt pattern 5 on 5.5 wheels.
It's always something isn't it. TR

Re: Explorer rear disc brake conversion
use Suzuki samurai front rotors for the 5.5 pattern on the 9 inch

Here's a good source for Ford 9" parts. They are about 35 miles from my place in MI. I've been there lots of boxes waiting to go to the big name rod shops.
