Had a bit of rain last night. got pretty heavy for an hour or so. I usually don't go to bed until 2 or 3 in the morning but after a full day of hammering, welding, filler and sanding on my inner fenders I was beat. Went to bed around midnight and just after I laid down the earth moved for me. Not in a good way, whole house shook and there was a huge THUD! Instantly knew what it was.






About 30 foot of wall on it's side and another 30 or so foot damaged but still standing. Not looking forward to this mess. It had a bit of lean to it starting last year and the heavy rains did it in.

Anyone know a good landscaper so I don't have to deal with this?

you've got to be more careful with the lawn edger Steve! , is it covered by insurance?

Insurance won't cover it because they consider it "water damage", which we expected. Over here you need a special water/flood damage rider for stuff like this.

On a happy note, Dianne's first words when we got back into the house last night after barricading it off were "even after all these years we can still feel the earth move while we're in bed".

I had actually mowed and trimmed along this the afternoon before it collapsed.

farmers are joking about planting rice.

but that is a pita to clean up, and probably could use some rebar or other type reinforcement if you rebuild. you need to let that dry out a while too.

damn Steve , that sux. if you put it back up yourself use snow fence as the dead man about 1 1/2 ft back and that usually keeps them from falling, altho in your case it looks like the wall pulled 2 1/ to 3 ft of sod with it . again ....sorry to hear that, and you tell Momma that you always shake the ground for her, she's just usually asleep . It's a shame to see that happen. Lots of digging to do there.
Looks like you could use a lot of help there pard. As far as landscapers
go they are all over the place here. Can't imagine a town without at least
a couple unless it is the size of Gypsum or Kipp. Might be time to sink some
big rebar in the ground and build some forms to pour a concrete wall.

Got a guy lined up to do all the work. We're going to clean up the bricks and stack them and he's going to do a new footing and re-lay them and backfill everything. I need to get a loader to do some other landscape work behind the garage addition so we'll dig out them out then. Now if it would stop raining for more than one day in a row we could maybe get something done. I think tonight is the first time Dianne has gotten a new car that we didn't drive home in the rain.

Yep, that's our driveway. We share a nice wide drive with the neighbor. Mine is the white house beside the wall.

I was going to suggest a French drain on the yard side of the wall but it looks like there no place for it to drain on the street or downhill end. If there was a storm/curb drain that would be ideal but you do not want your french drain eroding the lower part of the shared drive or the street.

It actually has a 4" perforated tile drain that runs behind it for the full length and a couple French drains under it into the drive. The landscaper thinks it is a footing stability problem because of all the rain we've had this spring. That size brick is rated to 5' tall with a natural footing and we're at 4'-8" so we knew we were pushing it when it went in. He's going with a deeper footing and some different engineering fabric to tie it all together when it goes back in. There is also a fiber optics line running into my house that is 3' behind the wall that limits some of what we can do in that area.
