Need some help with a Ignition Switch wiring.

Post by PFM-64f100 »

I am redoing my wiring on my Truck. I want to use the original switch with the new harness but running into a little bit of trouble. I have looked at the wiring diagrams listed around our site but still not for sure of a couple of things. I think I am over thinking this, I know it can't be this hard.

2782

On the above drawing (Crude at best) I know that
A = Accessories
S = Start
B = ?
C = ?

If anyone can tell me what B and C stand for that would help. If I have A and S wrong please let me know also.

I have used a test light/meter and found which ones do what but did write them down, so after the switch was installed I lost my placement. Everything does work on the wiring just need to get the placement written down. I at work so I know I am thinking of this too much and just need to get back out there with the test light and meter. But this will help greatly.

Thanks for the help in advance. I sure do want to drive my truck again. :steering:

Now you've got me overthinking it as well :hm:

Should be 4 wires.

Hot in from battery

Out to starter

Acessory out

One running through to the coil

As to which one of those is which on that, I cant really say. S would obviously be starter, and I thought the center pole was usually hot in from battery but I could be mistaken.

If I werent thinking about it I could probably just go hook it right up :hm:

PFM B is for the battery power A is for accessories S is for the starter solenoid and C is for power to coil and temp and oil light wire color for B is yellow, and A is black-green and the second wire is green-orange third wire blue-white, S red-blue, C is red-brown second red

C is run position, goes to the red wire with a green connector, to the pink resistor wire.

B is ACC, to fuse, gauges, et al... It is hot in the run position as well as the acc position.

I think A is the common batt in, I have back-up beams and a spotlite hooked to mine, just another common tie point for the accesories.

IIRC, B & C are cut out during the Start position, the only thing getting power is the starter and the coil via a bypass.

Someone has posted the '64 wiring diagrams here before, they are also available on The Old Car Manual Project site, I can forward them if desired.

Ignition switch wiring

I saw the previous replies on this subject but my problem is trying to match up with the EZ Wire harness I installed in the truck.

Maybe I too am making this too hard but I could use some more info.

Thank you for responding

This has been a real help. I just rewired my truck and plan to go back to the stock ignition switch, instead of the aftermarket "tractor" one I have in there now.
