Mustang fuel tank....... vent

One of the things I did not anticipate when I did my Mustang fuel tank install was puking gas out the vent on hard acceleration. A lot of gas. After this undesirable action was duly noted by "friends" (after they quit laughing) I cobbled together several temporary fixes. But now I have my new flair side box, I worked it out for a much better looking and performing vent.
I have a long hose from the tank vent that will connect to the little fuel filter (installed backward) that will damp the surge of fuel, then up inside the fender well.
Also, this gives me enough length to hook up before I bolt the tank back in the frame.
I don't anticipate any problems with water as Nadine will probably never be driven in the rain again, but the vent is turned down in the lee side of the fender (the water is kicked up from the tires at the back of the fender well) and I do have the filter downstream as backup.
Anyway, here is my solution...

If you have a style side bed, I'd run a metal tube up inside the rear stake pocket with a fishhook on it so water doesn't have a direct path to the vent. That is "kinda" what my temprorary fix was about.

I always ran a filter like that on our dirt cars. Ran it from the top front of the cell towards the back. The filter is the difference.

On my '57, I ran it from the fill neck towards the front along the top of the tank and put the filter right at the top front of the tank. Never a problem.

At least you vented it! I just realized after reading this that I forgot to vent mine before putting gas in it the first time...now I'm afraid I'm gonna blow up if I drill a hole to put a vent in...

Empty the tank and take it to a radiator shop and have them do it.

How were they vented in the mustangs?Could that be adapted to work?

I know this is a old thread. But I am in the process of installing a mustang tank and l was wondering if anyone has tried a vented cap? I don't feel confident in welding a breather on the side of the filler neck. Mustang tanks are quite expensive here (I just paid $250) so don't want to stuff it up.

Thinking about trying a marine vented filler cap and neck.

I have a mustang tank in my uni that comes up thru the bed floor and uses a vented cap. No issues.
