I'm gonna shoot the interior cab floor of my 65 when I get it cleaned up. Did hit it with a wire brush on my grinder last night and got it pretty good. Will hit again and wash down before I hit with some primer. I've just got a cheapie gun from HF as well. Gonna give it a try.shipwrecked wrote:Using a cheap harbor freight gun for primer. Re: my shipwrecked '63
Regarding the door binding - keep in mind that the hinges have 'oblong' holes where they mount to the cab so that is your point of right/left adjustability (right/left when sitting in the cab). If the hinges are to far 'in-board' the front of the door will likely bind before it reaches the full closed position.
Try pulling those 'outboard' as far as possible to start and see how they work. Then adjust in accordingly....

Re: my shipwrecked '63
yup! I am going to use the classic 1960's plates.
Its registered to a set of Oregon plates since the mid to late 1960's. The Oregon plates for a january 1963 registration are available for about 230- through a guy in Oregon. I would just need to change the registration from the current one to the new plates. Since I just paid registration again last month- I will wait till it's due again.
http://www.oregonplates.com
The truck was originally built and purchased in California. The truck then moved to Oregon in the mid-60's where it sat till I bought it in 2013. I moved it to WA for about two years, and it's been in NJ for almost two years.
Been a full year since I started the kick in high gear rebuild of this truck. There was a post on my Facebook that said I dropped my paycheck on some dennis carpenter parts
I've dropped like most of my yearly salary on this dang thing already.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
I saw my "shopping list" of jobs available for me that I have to put in a request for= since I am due to transfer next summer. There were 5 jobs in the Norfolk VA area and two in Seattle. One in Baltimore and one in Sacramento CA. I am going to ask for the Norfolk VA jobs first, then Seattle and down the list. I am asking for a shore job since I have too much sea time as it is. I gotta get this F100 put together and somewhat drivable.
I bought my paint today. I drove up to get some more high build primer since I spilled 1/2 a gallon of it all over my bench last week. I bought that, but decided to get my paint and clear coat as well. I have 9 whole days off of work coming up starting this weekend. Time to get cracking!
I will most likely place my cab back on the frame. Then push the frame in and out of the garage after I paint the cab. I need this thing mobile and less likely to get dinged sitting on the frame.
Stay tuned for more!

If you land in Norfolk, be sure to look us up! We are about an hour and a half inland, right down the 4 lane, a nice easy drive West, perfect for these Slick trucks.

At Skip's recommendation, I'm going to hit it with this stuff before I prime and paint.orangeRcode wrote:I'm gonna shoot the interior cab floor of my 65 when I get it cleaned up. Re: my shipwrecked '63
moved the frame up to the front of the garage. It's been sitting out back over a year now.

Still sanding. I honestly have put way too many hours on a piece of the cab that won't be seen.

The plan for Sunday was to take the cab and place it on top of the frame. I already removed the doors for this task and a few friends from work are on stand by to come over and do the heavy lifting.
Once cab is on frame- then push the frame into the garage and finish getting the cab ready for paint.

plan for today was to put the cab back on the frame but Hurricane Matthew is kicking a shit load of rain and wind up the coast at us. It would ruin anything Ive already done so I am doing plan B.
Plan B.

Steve, any competent vinyl sign maker can make them. The ones on my Ranger was made by a woman here in Smithville. They look just like the originals. She did a reverse cut on the letters and also a reverse cut on the background. They are both stuck on the back of the plexiglass so the plastic is shinny like the originals.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
I sanded more today and recoated with high build. I was;t just sanding.. it takes time to sand, then find the bad low spots... fill with filler, then wait till that drys... then sand some more.. then recoat- then sand again. Time consuming.
The inner fenders are not that bad now. I plan on painting those black. The cab was in 120 but I recoated and did some more body filler on the various low spots. (roof and back of cab) I sanded everything down to 80 again, and re-coated. Tomorrow morning I will sand down to 120, re-coat and then sand to 220. I would love to get it all the way to 400 tomorrow but won't expect it.

I got the placards from a guy named Ralph May on Facebook. He is on the slick 60's trading post. That's how I found him. I really waited about 6 months before the deal finally finished. I contacted him the first time in Feb. Was May before he got back to me. and then the pieces showed up a few weeks ago. In his defense, I didn't push the subject too much and he left the country on a trip in the middle of the summer. I am very pleased with the product. It is a vinyl sticker attached to the super thin plexy glass. He used a skill saw to cut it out. I don't have the steady hand for that jazz.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
Started my morning with sanding to 120.

Pretty much played hide and seek. Hide with high build, seek with block sanding.
8 hours later, all I did was sand the exterior of the cab to 120 and the two inner fenders to 120. I recoated with high build.

Will let that dry overnight and hit it with 180 tomorrow. I have to run to my ortho appointment about my hand tendonitis and also then go over to see my ENT for my follow-up... I am on a 6 month cycle for the cancer... long way since the initial issue- hard to believe its been almost 4 years now.

I had tennis elbow (tendinitis) a few years ago. Went to my regular doc. He told me that if I could not use my dominant arm, it might feel better after 6 weeks or so - right. Went to my friend who is an acupuncturist, two appointments later, no pain and no recurrence. It does not work for everything, but acupuncture sure seems to work well on treating inflammation.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
I spent the entire day up in Egg Harbor at two different medical appointments. One was for the ENT- another good to go from the doctor- scheduled my PET scan for March and my next appointment follow up in April.
Saw the ortho doc about my wrists- Both have tendonitis. He thought it was odd I have the exact symptoms on both wrists, but I know its cause I have been in high gear with the truck. F- it... I need to work on the truck.. I want to work on the truck... I can't wait to get to a point to drive it.
I took a look at the hub caps I had powder coated a year ago. I like the darker grey! The paint on the stick was supposed to be the same color but it certainly doesn't look it to me! I may just go get different paint. It will cost me 100 either way. Either re-coat the hub caps, or buy new paint. It's the same price. The lighter grey looks like my epoxy primer. my dad, and my friend greg like the lighter color. I am partial to the darker one. But I wish I had a photoshop program to test either color on the truck. I may even just go buy the paint and look at doing a two tone like I drew up a few months back.
What you think? I know its my truck and what I want I should go with it..... but---- Im interested in what you guys think since you all are watching this project.

Most parts are on order. Bushing kit from Dennis Carpenter, drag link and tie rods from National Parts Depot, the axle/spring u-bolts from LMC, and I need a new tie rod adjusting sleeve from somewhere. Everyone is out and mine is bent! I called the Bronco guy over in Wilmington and he said he should have one, I just need to measure the thread diameter area where the tie rod goes to be sure I get the correct one. $$$ flying out my hand here. But weekends off for a few weeks and the weather is still holding nice. Time to get some work done on the truck frame before old man winter comes visiting.
