I don't think there are many of you here with this type of front suspension but it does serve as a warning to check your stuff.
IFS Warning: HAMB
"Looking at the one pic, it appears to me that the anchoring point for the mount of the lower control arm for the IFS was a little too sparse for my liking."
I've gotta agree, the mounting points on the crossmember are way too narrow for comfort!
I bet that control arm was twisting that mounting point quite a bit during cornering & braking.
I'm glad nobody was killed.

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!

Hope the occupants are okay.
Had to be one hell of a ride while the suspension was letting go. Wonder if & when the custom car/truck mags will decide to cover stuff like this, importance of quality parts, competent welding & assembly.

preventing this sort of thing from happening is my day job. Belive me, it hurts to see this sort of thing happen to anyone. I just stress proper engineering when it comes to installing your IFS regardless of what type it is or who made it.
IF we don't watch this sort of thing as an industry the FED will step in and demand certain testing be done before it is available to the public. If you think a $3K front end is expensive now, throw in DOT certification and licenced installers, WOOO!

Over here you are required by law to have an engineers report on any alteration to brakes, chassis and steering among other not so critical changes,ELpolacko`s post brings home the reason for this and it helps protect the next owner from the PO`s workmanship or lack of it!
Alan,
Alan,
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

The discerning buyer can not see through ground, filled, smoothed and painted welds and by the look of that rod everything would of looked pretty smick.I`ve seen welds that look like a machine did them but had no penetration and others that looked like pelican shit on the beach but hung on for ages, and what about the non-discerning buyer who looks after him or her, then " CAVEAT EMPTOR ". that's all i`ll say on the matter and the drinks are on the house!!!,and pussy is half price for the next 15 minutes.blackagatha wrote:PO's Workmanship will HOPEFULLY be noticeable to the discerning buyer, who should hopefully fix it before something bad happens.
I like my straight axle though....

true... you really cant tell if the guy knew what he was doing, especially when they are ground and made pretty. It's all about penetration....
My dad makes terrible looking welds that have never broken on anything he's made, and seen pretty welds busted all to pieces. Sometimes the ugliest welds are the best.... Or maybe they just get lucky....
