Side Mirror help?

When I bought my truck it did not come with the side mirrors. The PO had used them on another truck. I see there are a couple of different styles for the 1966, I was hoping someone could tell me what style I need. Here is a pic of the mounting hole on the door, it is the same hole for both sides.

Most of the regular suppliers have them, Dennis Carpenter, Carolina Classics, LMC, Mac's Antique Auto parts, and others I am sure. I beleive DC makes their own form original Ford tooling though. Depends partially on the quality level you expect and what you are willing to pay for them.

SoCal Speed Shop has chrome replacement mirrors to go back in the factory hole. I saw them there a couple of weeks ago. I do not know there web address is but you should be able to Google them.

Don't forget to order the rubber gaskets that go around the base too!

wish I could find some that wern't chrome... I am looking to paint them. Will just have to blast them and then paint I guess. Thanks again for all the help.

Wish my truck had the cut-outs in the doors so I could remove those west coast mirrors and install the mirrors in Macon ACE's photo. I'll have to look at the inside to see if there was a cut-out that was covered.

Getting a little off topic here....

My round side mirrors are okay for a driver, excpet the won't hold their position. Anyway easy way to get them a little more useable? Other than shrink myself about 8-10"?

jwhf100: I took a drimil tool and a thin cut off tool and went to work on my door. I used a cardboard template I made from a slick that had the mirror cutouts and then transferred it to the one that did not. Old school carbon paper. Then carefully used the drimil tool to cut it out. The bolt holes throught he side of the door were there so all in all it took about 2 hours. Remember to use masking tape on the door first. It holds the carbon transfer and cuts down on scratches.

very interesting.i never saw a slick door that did not have the rectangular hole in it from the factory.

My guess is that a PO had welded the mirror opening, either to put on different morrors or because of some type of damage. All my other ones have had the openings.

I thought my doors didn't have the holes for the mirrors either, but after further looking I found that the PO had bondoded of the hole. So I knocked it out with a punch and hammer. He also filled all the side hole for the chrome strip with bondo.

These are the same mirrors that Ford has used from 1953. My 56 panel truck has a massive blind spot on the passenger side as you might imagine. I had J & B Microfinish make me the bracket from billet aluminum so they would'nt crack like the stock die-cast parts. We also made the passenger side 1" longer to get a better view behind me. Not sure if the would work on a Slick as the bracket is more vertical than the fat-fendered trucks. Just an option for you.
