CUSTOM CLASSIC TRUCKS LOST BET WITH CLASSIC TRUCKS, OH WELL.

Post by john gilbert »

The December issue of Custom Classic Trucks has 5 truck features. 3 are Fords with Ford engines, and 2 are Chevrolets with Chevrolet engines. When I told the guys at Classic Trucks that I had more Fords than Chevys in this issue they bet me that I wouldn't hear anything positive about it. I was told I would only hear from the usual bunch of cry-babies pissing and moaning about the same stuff they always do ... Whatever.

There was nothing sneaky about the poly-bag the December issue came in. Its best if a person knows how to read: Right at the top left in big letters it said BROTHERS Specialists in '47 - 87 Chevrolet and GMC Parts... Duh? For much longer than I have been CCT's editor BROTHERS has bought CCT's calendar. If one of our Ford advertisers bought the CCT calendar, do you think it would still be full of Chevrolets?

One last note: I've been pushing my photog in Texas to shoot Mike's red & white '66 for some time. I've had it set to run for the last two issues. He's a freelancer and works two jobs besides shooting for CCT. I told Skip that I would get it in as soon as I could... That probably jinxed it.

Anyways, Happy New Year.

Hey no one told me that there was more Fords than Chevs in the mag. I ain't paying nobody for no chev calendar, period. Over on Fordification.com, I told Grant from CT if he put an issue out that featured Fords, I would buy it and I did. The ONLY copy I own of Classic Trucks is sitting in my bathroom right now, with a nice turquoise Fatman shop truck on the cover.
Image

But, after that, Grant had a brain fart and went back to publishing Fat fender Fords with Chev engines..(Yawn, snore, barf in my mouth a little) Never bought his mag again. :? If you guys want Ford guys to buy your mags, Then STOP THAT. It's like writing about school shootings... only perpetuates more school shootings and other tragedies.
Put those in, I ain't buying... and I am just one voice, representing a big silent bunch in here. Thanks for the attempt to get a Slick in there. and with a Ford motor. What a refreshing change in format that would be. :dancing:

You can buy ALL Mustang magazines, ALL Camaro magazines, ALL Ford magazines, and ALL Chevy magazines (although the Mustang publications outnumber the Camaro magazines). I think it will be quite awhile before we see and ALL classic Chevy OR Ford truck magazine.
I can't swing a dead cat without finding a Mustang enthusiast or at least Mustang owner, there are 6 of us within 2 blocks! There are probably 10-12 "enthusiast" owned classic trucks in town - that's BOTH brands and includes the restorer types.
I can tell darn near anyone about my 85 Mustang GT and they know what it looks like, I mention my 62 Uni and they just look lost, it's just reality. If there were brand specific classic truck magazines they would likely cost about $20-$25 per issue, then we would complain about the price. It's basically the same for the Chevy truck guys, they have to share magazine space with us too. Truck hotrodders are fewer in number than car guys by quite abit, doesn't seem that way to us in here cause we hotrod in a sort of a vacumn. It's getting better though, still not gonna change as fast as we would like. I imagine it would be nice for the publisher if there were both too, just not yet cost effective. It's STILL better now than it used to be!
We don't "pay" for a sponsored calender, the sponsor does or else the magazine would have a higher cover price 1 month out of the year.

Mr Gilbert, do the Chevy guys complain this much too about Fords in the magazine?

John.
It don't matter.
We (almost all of us) appreciate everything you're doing for the breed. I've been reading "hot rod" magazines with the brand X small block as the focal point since 1956 and old habits are hard to break.
Kind of makes you wonder how they can rehash the same thing over and over. Crap, after 50+ years there can't be anything new about the mouse.
Anyway, if I can chip in to help you pay off the bet, just let me know....... and oh yeah, don't give up on us either.
BTW. Your effort here caused me to subscribe to the magazine and I'm pretty happy.
Happy New Year buddy.

Oh yeah.
As far as whining goes, I wonder what the fallout would be if someone actually did an all Ford issue in Custom or Custom/Classic Trucks?
Grant, you wanker, nut up and admit it.
I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth now from the brand X faithful:
"Oh, woe is me, woe is me. All we ever see is Ford Truck's. I'll never buy this magazine again." 8)
Thanks again John.

About the calenders. Maybe we should compile some pics and make our own calenders. Price is like buying one from the store but with out the trash.

Lonnie and Clearcreek. It's been done. Last years and the year before's both had me or my truck in them even the one lonnie has on that calendar. 2007`s had me at the wheel of the XL!!!
The guys hosting Slickstock are supposed to have them made up (until now they have used Lulu), but i haven't heard of one yet for 2008

I'll plug again for Vintage Truck magazine. Every issue is fairly divided between Ford, GM, Dodge, even International. Not to mention panel trucks, wagons, Jeeps and all kinds of weird stuff you won't see anywhere else. Very little advertising too.
The downside (depending on your 'bent') is that is caters to the mostly-stock crowd. Not the date coded wiring guys, but the stock body, mild mechanical mod people. No chopped tops, no shaved door handles, no airbrushed murals. I think they've featured at least 2 Slicks in the last year.

a little disapointed

Post by stronger66ratfink »

Got my first issue of the magizine and was on pins and needles waiting for the January addition to come out and when I got it I was a little disapointed to not see Miss Daisy in the line up from Lone Star Nat'l to say the least but told myself it's OK, still really appreciate Skip pushing to get her in but since I wasn't able to stay long enough I was wondering how they would of had a picture anyway.
Took her for a romp down to Galveston New Years day morning while all the party hounds where still trying to wake up and it was heaven, clear sky's and clear roads! would like to say the 66 in the Dec. issue is pretty sweet!

Clearcreek. Pretty sure the Slickstock guys dropped the ball on this one. The last 4-5 have been published on Lulu
here's a link to the Fordification one
http://www.lulu.com/content/188290
you can self publish it on there if you want, I'd say go for it.

calender

Post by Truckrat »

 Well.............I got my December issue of CCT and my January issue of CCT. Been a subscriber since 1994 when they first started CCT. When my December issue arrived in the mail, it wasn't in a poly bag, and it DIDN'T have a calender in it. I am glad to see some slicks getting into the magazine, even if the builders put brand x motors in 'em. A real bitchin black uni comes to my mind a few months back. I guess I would like to know how come mine didn't come in a poly bag with a calender in it, and some other subscribers to CCT did? After hearing all this about the Chevy calender (sponsored by Brother's) and not getting one, I am not bitter. But it is strange that they wouldn't all be mailed out to the subscribers the same way. Maybe I am the only one.
I WAS dissappointed that Miss Daisy wasn't in the Goodguys show section, because Chris and I were there, and we met Mike and talked
with him about it while looking her over. Too bad the freelance guy didn't find ''her'' among all the other stuff that was there. I hope he DOES get that feature done soon for everyone to see. That truck is so clean you could eat off it. TR
