I thought I was the only one with a 62 Buick Skylark with the 215 aluminum V8. I bought it at a farm implement auction for $52.50. Found out the tractor shop had it because it broke down so many times, the owner just handed them the title. It only had 50,000 miles on it and I only got about 50 miles out of it when it quit running. Sold it to junkman for $50.
Then I bought my black 69 Torino Gt fastback. Drove it thru most of high school until the accelerator broke and I totalled it on the back of a school bus. Would love to have another someday.

Saved up money from my paper route and paid $300 for a rusty '64 Chevy Biscayne. Not much to look at, but little 283 would push it along.

My first ride was a 66 F-100 Camper Special. It was black with red interior, and only had 98k miles on it. I only had it for a couple years before I got a 65 Mustang 2+2. I still have the Mustang, wish I still had the truck.

Great thread guys. Reading all the stories definately brings back memories of first vehicles and the good times, not all legal, that the boys used to have in high school. First vehicle was a (sorry) 71 GMC pickup with a 67 283 4 speed. Hollywood muffflers, bucket seats, and an old tin off Copenhagen where the horn button used to be. Drove it hard for 9 months and got a 76 Ranger XLT that has now become powertrain for my slick 12 years later.

I still own my first vehicle, it is a 61 Mercury unibody swb, which burned up on me in the early eighties. This is also my project truck which has been stored in my garage for the last twenty some years, while the new vehicles sit outside in the elements.

37 Ford Tudor "flatback" Sdn on a 48 Mercury chassis with the post \war suspension & Hydraulic Brake improvements. We massaged the 255 CID ME engine into a 3/4 race version with early aftermarket speed parts.

I sold it in 55 when we figured out how to put OHV V8s in cars instead of built Flathead. Had to whip the Power Pack 265 SB doncha know ? Built an Olds Powered Plymouth 5 window coupe with a Lasalle 3spd & Olds Rear.

It was comfirmed by the community that we were crazy & couldn't leave well enough alone. .. .. .. .. & They were correct. . . .

The first car I drove was a 1977 Monarch. My dad picked it up for $200 and ended up giving it to my brother. It was a 250 inline six at first, then a 302, then a 255 V8 (widely regarded as the worst Ford V8 ever, but it was practically free!). My first learning experiences were split between that and an '82 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon. Travelled to many a hockey trip in that boat...

The first car I owned was a 1987 Grand Marquis. I didn't own it for a long time though as it was the family car until I had it handed over to me. Still got it at 340,000 km. Peeling paint and all. :D

Now the first truck I ever bought was a '55 F100.
I was test drivng a '78 F100 when I turned down this street and low and behold there set my dream truck for the same price. 8)
Had a 289 in it which made no since to me with all that room under the hood so me and a friend of mine found a 429 with tranny for $225.
One month later I was a tire smokin' son of a gun. :D
Sure do miss that truck. :(

33 Plymouth was Medium Metallic Green, with a Green & White Gut and the OEM Gold Oldsmobility engine, zero fenders & bumpers, hand formed nerfs and bracketed headlights too. I also smoothed the firewall & reduced engine clutter as much as I could for those days. It was a fast, chic magnet, type of machine. :thumright:

My favorite was my 64 Falcon Futura Sport Coupe tudor hardtop. Thru a deal concerning 100 Prototype 302, yup that's 302 engines from NY Taxis in1962 I managed to get a 302 which I rebuilt because it had 12 months of NY Traffic on it. It was an early style block with the 6 bolt pattern, I used a Borg Warner 4 gear from a sprint & the 260Windsor flywheel & Bellhousing. I ran a 500 Cfm 2V carb on a manifold with a modified heat spacer plate. The engine built & blue printed & waiting in summer of 63.

I bought the Falcon in August, drove it to the shop yanked the 260 with a Dagenhiem 4 Gear & OEM 8" FoMoCo rear and put the 302 & Borg Warner 4 gear in it along with a 3.89:1 9" Detroit Locker from a 59 Ford USPO Ranch wagon. It was A solid 14.3 street car after I installed the Gold Seal Link type "Traction Masters" and a hand formed set of dual exhaust. I was a threat to Impala SS 300/327CID & standard 409 CIDs & 348 powered CHebbies also many MoPaR MuScLe cars in a big body. But the Satellites, and Chargers etc with the 426 Max wedge & Hemis made me look Slow when they showed up. But at ine time I was the most hated Ford in the Bunch, I loved it . .

The first car i bought was a 1968 mustang that i still have i love it to death i think i have turned every nut and bolt on it at least twice. i will probably be buired in it. i have turned down a great offer for it and sometimes i still call myself dumb but people do funny things when their in "love"

First car was a 72 Ford Pinto. Not exactly a chick magnet, but it got me from point A to point B. Only paid $200 and it was easy to work on.
