Steering column removal

Doing a frame off on a 64 F250 (my first) and I'm just about to the point of taking the cab off. Should be ready by next weekend. Haven't looked too close yet but how does the steering column break down? Should I take the gear box off the frame and slide the column out the bottom of the cab? Anybody know how its supposed to be done? Thanks
