Its a jeep thing

Post by Phil »

Local guy's brand new truck burned up last week
Brycer wrote:SO..... my Jeep went up about 2-3 weeks ago. I was traveling up north 23, the jeep started sputtering like it wasn't getting fuel, so I slowed to pull onto the shoulder, as I slowed down the jeep started running fine again, I started to accelerate and it started sputtering again. I get out of the Jeep and its smoking, I reach for the hood latches and a flame comes out the side of the hood. Needless to say I just called 911 and watched it burn to this.....

Not gonna lie, Id like to have one.
The straight 6 will run under water and take amazing abuse
The Libertys are junk.
Damn Jeep makes Toledoans proud and embarrassed at the same time

they are made in Toledo and I know a lot of people who have made great lives working there. I also know people who spend it all on blow and booze.

They rust terribly here. You'd think a truck designed in Detroit and built in Toledo Ohio would come e coated everyplace or something.

This is my buddy Ryan's daily driver:

I don't know Phil I 4wheeled with the best of the in the early 80's and not one could do much good. More than a few were on the tow strap behind me.

I redid a cj-5 and dropped in a v8 and it woud almost pop wheelies. 1st car I actually did; that I sold and made a profit. I usually lose my butt when I go to sell them, but that is not why you do it anyway.

Man that does suck.... I know that from experience. I had nearly the same thing happen to a Dakota. Driving the truck along, acted up a little but got to where I was going. Sitting in the house and heard an explosion(tire exploding). Looked out side and my truck was already toast.

Yeah not a huge fan of the new jeeps but love the old ones. We have a couple we use for hunting. We don't believe in spending thousands of dollars on worthless four wheelers. The jeeps can carry 4-5 guys and a couple deer. I think we have about $400 total invested in the 2 jeeps.

FC-170 FTW, eh Iceman?

Jeeps hardly have the exclusive on catching fire. Fords are all too prone to that mid 1990s thru 2000-something. Ignition switch recall, ask your dealer.

not to mention the 94 to 200x cruise control recall on the f150s. and this problem can cause a fire at any time. even when not running.

fun!!! Fire fIIREE! Wee FIRE!!!

my neighbor across the street had a late 80's Bronco burn off about 8 years ago, drove it home, went inside, and lit up... They suspected the kids from the middle school, also next door, but investigation said it was natural.

there was about 50 kids standing there watching as the tires blew off, and Fire Dept came... incredible...

I've actually enjoyed the daydream of an old jeep. An actual M38A1 would be cool, or some sort of extremely simplistic old 40s/50s jeep that hasnt been screwed with a whole heck of a lot.

I doubt I'll pursue it though as I already have too many projects I need to knock out. I really wouldnt buy a new jeep though.
