17" Steelies
17" Steelies
I plan to get a Crown Vic front end for my 66 F100 by the end of the summer or whenever I find one. I want to do that and get the rear bolt pattern to match. I was wanting to go with 17 inch Torq Thrust CL205 in the front with the grey center and polished lip and then 18 out back but at first I want to find a plain set of 17 inch all around steel wheels to paint gloss black and then use chrome baby moon caps and beauty rings. I plan to change the color of my truck from the now forest metallic green with pearl to a plain gloss black. I think the steelies will match quite well and keep the black until I can afford AR Torq Thrust's.
Any idea where I can find some? I found some aftermarket Billet ones but they are VERY VERY pricey so I need something else.
Thanks!

check out stockton wheel they got a ton of stuff pretty reasonable, you might also check out centerline wheels web site also, you can buy direct from them and for a while they were beating everyone in town on wheels ( I almost bought some 20 centerline smoothies for 125 ea for an f-150 I had) also go buy discount tire and ask to see there oem/steel wheel replacement catalog.
Heres a thought .........pattern change to 5x135 and get some 22" harley wheels for your slick! carry the harley paint scheme over the front fender but go with merecedes silver and a house of color black with a little flake in it , air bags and blk ostrich/leather seats, yeah. Sorry , ya got me jazzed about wheel ideas.

Yeah Centerline actually has the smoothies for very cheap because they dont make them! I will look into them again, only thing is they are very flat and too much chrome. I'd like to leave the lip chrome/polished and then paint the back part black but then need a chrome/polished center cap or something... If only I were good with photoshop.

Not sure. I have been looking at the centerline steelie wheel and think that I can paint the center, leave the lip polished and then the center cap they come with I can leave chrome... If only I knew how to use my photoshop I would be able to see if I like that idea or not. I may try messing with it...
If you have a hard time finding a used set of 17" Cop car steelies (I think they didn't come out till '06) Ford House's list price is $160 each. Fastpartsnetwork.com has them for $127. The Ford House I buy from keeps their prices to within a couple bucks of fastpartsnetwork.
And before you say you can find them in the junkyard ALOT of police departments will hold onto spare wheels if they're in good shape if they can get away with it. Heck, the sheriff's department I bought my '98 CV from stole the freaking spare tire before they sold it! A call to every junkyard in the greater Texas Panhandle yielded ZERO wheels for any Panther Platform car. Wound up paying Ford House $118 for a spare steelie for my car, plus $12 for the hootus that keeps the spare up on the shelf in the trunk.

(I am assuming a 03+ CV)
The trouble with the cop car steelies, is that there's no lip to mount a beauty ring, or a baby moon (as we know it) there is the lugcover style center caps, and I have seen some narrow beauty rings online, but they've got a different modern look to them. (this appies to the 16" flat wheels of the 03+ CV) Running most stock steel wheels you may run into a big offset/track width problem. I'm running 06 (17x8)mustang bullits (which have a huge offset (1/2 inch more thsn to 01-04 style and with 235 55/17 the outside width of my treads is 72" at he center of the section width of the tires makes it 73"
That's pretty wide under the body. (Same as my old fenton 15x7's with 225 75 15. (not the torque thrust style sadly)
My plan before finding the bullits was to use the stock 16" cop steelies with a screw on type full moon disc, In my opinion it's thr only wat to keep that vintasge look with that wide a set up.

First thing is no one makes 17" beauty rings. So that might be a problem.
I looked in to 17's like you are talking, several years ago. You can get 17 steel smothiees all you want, the baby moon cap is the same as say a 15, but unless someone stepped up good luck w/the ring.
I bought a set of 16" that are on my unibody now. Wanna buy them?
