Has the price of gas changed your attitute, yet?

I had an 83 Ranger years ago that we put a 302 in w/ an automatic. That thing got great gas milage. The motor didn't have to work that hard. The truck was light and just cruized along w/o effort.
I have a 352 in my 65. It would get better milage if I were to ever get my butt in gear and change out the rear gears. I have a few other things to do to it right now to make it look better. THEN, I can attack that issue.
Change out the rear gears and do what I can to lighten up the truck.
Big motor + light truck = fun w/ economy and something cheaper on gas than my 89 F-250.

I will drive my slick as long as I can before I have to sacrifice the big loud motor.
I would love to build a 6 banger some day too. Done right, they can prove to be worth the investment.

I have currently recommishoned my '87 Bronco II, parked the Dodge 1 ton diesel, stay closer to home, and spend more time in the shop! I think I enjoy the change!! I will do things to the Slick to get the most efficiency out of it to a point.... with some emphasis on fun.

that looks like my brothers shadopw he sold it years back, put about 120k on it before he even did brakes lol thing ran good considering he didnt do anything to it but change theo il, it had hail damage and peeling paint too

As far as the Slick with the single digit MPG,....... uh no, but I do light foot the daily driver a bit more now. Gave some thought ot buying a big MPG maker, but for the cost of buying, extra insurance, etc., I can buy a lot of gas.

This has my interest also, a buddy and me are thinking about trying it on a old car he has.

They already have here where I live. the gas station down the road must fill up their storage tanks with 25% water when they get gas. Or at least my truck drives like they do.

If that water gas thing actually worked, the inventor would currently be swimming in more buckage that Bill Gates. Yes, I'm a skeptic.

BA, if you had a daily commute of just under 80 miles, you might look at econoboxes a little differently.

I bought my little putt-putt for $600 two years ago & have put maybe another $400 into it. Radiator, CV axle, dist. hall effect sensor, valve cover gasket & front brakes...that's it.
Oh & $200 for the rims-n-tires in the pic. It's currently got 148,000 on the clock & runs great!

It's also the closest thing to rice that I've ever owned...ain't gonna get any closer.

I have a few gas guzzlers to drive when I feel the urge, but for my main hum-drum commuting, I'm perfectly happy with my little putt-putt.

I imagine the only reason the hydrogen stuff doesnt take off anybetter is because everybody is skeptical... I am personally really interested, was making some generator bottles, then I read of all the horrible stuff that Can happen to your engine; the makers of this crap say it isnt going to happen due to basic physics and chemistry, but I'm not convinced.

there was a guy that made a super special pulse modulator or something that made the thing like 200X more efficient, and supposedly drove a dune buggy clear across the country on about 3 gallons of water... then supposedly, he was offered a chunk of change by the oil companies to shut up about his invention, and when he refused, they poisoned him...

I get about 16 mpg on avg commuting about 63 a day and the 70 a week to fill up my ext Trailblazer (25 gallon) is know about 98 a week. I still remember when my dad was advising me on my first brand new off the lot purchase, and milage came up. "you'll get 300 miles to a tank" no matter what you buy, its the other things in your budget that will adjust as fuel prices change.

OK I have been hearing this on radio commercials for new cars. They are boasting that Brand Whatever has 4 models that will get over 300 miles to a tank. What in the world does that matter?

MPG is the only true way to calculate your fuel cost/mile. Miles per tank means nothing as tank sizes are different from one model to the next. I don't get it.

Tim, It is but another ploy to try and get PT Barnum's suckers (that are born every minute) to go out and buy a car. There obviously are some people dumb enough not to realize if a Hummer has a 100 gallon tank and gets pitiful gas mileage, it still goes 300 miles on a tank.

Same ploy as "This car will only cost you $199/month". Sure, with a 20,000 dollar buyout at the end, for a car worth $4000. Some people are idiots, but someone will bite.

I once even heard of a whole country that was taken in by the words "We have to get these weapons of mass destruction" So there ya go.

BA those conspiracy stories of Oil companies/million dollar payouts/poisonings/ etc have been around since the McCarthy Era (google it). I think they were the original basis for the James Bond movies LOL here's a real consipracy theory for ya if you have a couple hours http://zeitgeistmovie.com/

I have the spec sheets to build it. as soon as I can get started I will make it work. Several members on other message boards now have been building theirs. Honda just put a commercial up for their car that emitts water only vapors. hmmmm

ford has their super chief concept which has a hydrogen generator as well as BMW hmmmmm

I get about 312 miles to a tank in my F150 4x4. It gets 16-17 mpg.... miles to a tank dont mean crap...

MPT DOES matter.... If you gotta stop every chance you get becuse the tank is too little...

Aggie gets about 150 MPT.... damn I gotta get some better mileage!
