Unfortunately Keith has had difficulty finding a dependable server on which to host his great website. I think he has moved it at least 3 times since I joined over there. Don't worry, he will have it back up. Must be a giant pain for the guy tho. We are lucky.

A wee history lesson BA. This site was begun by one man (foodstick) on , I think, the now defunct Excite site.. They moved to Yahoo and then MSN, and kept moving off these sites as the membership increased, because they all flat out sucked.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity on MSN, which was also less than satisfactory, a generous member of Slick 60's named Jimdog volunteered computer space on the servers at Columbia University in SC, where he works as an IT guy. Jimdog is a busy man maintaining the Universities' computers, and is rarely rarely around, so, in exchange for our free, dependable server space, he does what maintenance he can, when he can, on our site. It might take him a day, might take him a month, might take him 3 months, but it will never again suck like MSN did, and the best part is, IT'S FREE. :thumright:

No PBS-style membership drives or donate buttons or wining about money on Slick 60s. No ads, or all the other bullbleep all the other truck sites have to put up with. Just us and the sky and the wind. So, don't complain too loud when the chat is less than perfect or the pics don't work for a month. It's FREE and it is generally extremely dependable. None of which you can say about any other truck site. :thumright:

well, I didnt know we had a private server at a university... All I know is that Ive ran across quite a few forums with the same framework/programming, figured it was something anybody could make up a forum with...

The bulletin board software, is free or nearly free, yes you see it on a lot of boards, including Fordification. It's the server space to run it, on a site that gets as many hits as us or Fordification, with all the pics we have, that gets expensive. While Keith does a great job maintaining and organizing his site, awesome when you think that is all the work of one man, he just can't afford or seem to find a decent server.

I didn't know that either, but that helps explain a couple questions I had. I was just assuming we had an independently wealthy member who had pre-paid for the site's use until 2088.

I saw the same message you guys did. Of course the next thing any Old Ford Truck addict would do is check up on the Slick 60's forum. :D

I hope Keith is okay, I know he's got a lot on his plate these days.

That looks like a decent site, why isn't that one the main one being used?

it can't support the bandwidth we use over there. with all the tech articles and pictures we'd crash that one in a couple of hours probably. there really is alot over there besides tthe forums. kieth has hundreds of pages of info on the main site.
