Filling Pinhole rust

Post by f100matt »

I've been helping a freind of mine with his Ch*#y Camero and need to fill a couple pinholes in the firewall... I have a oxy-acedylene setup and was wondering what brazing rod would be best to fill them..

Well,I dont claim to be a expert but I will offer what advice I can.
Be dang carefull with a open flame torch near the firewall of a car as you may get something hot nearby not relizeing it.
You will have to use a tiny tip or you will just chase the holes around and never fill them up.I had 2 small rust spots on the left fender I put on my 66 a few years ago,I chased the holes around for a while because the metal was thin in a larger area than I relized.
I personally wouldnt use brass,I would get a couple small steel rods.Paint doesnt stick to brass well.
Very old coat hangers, the steel 1's,some folkes weld sheetmetal and such them.I dont know that I would chance geting the wrong kind and makeing a mess as cheap as the small 3 foot steel rods are a pound.
I dont know that I wouldnt try some of the liquid steel paste in them holes, leave it for a while and then work it down.May do fine without the heat.I used that liquid steel to repair a deep groove in a hydrolic cylinder years ago on my work truck and far as I know it is still working fine. 1 of those," oh crap I dont need no more trouble, what do I do? type repairs!"Tough stuff for sure.I got what I used from Napa.
Our cow kicked the bucket,so we dont need anymore Bull.:>)
