62 flareside

Post by madmatt54 »

I just bought a '62 flareside, and I don't have any experience or parts for anything ford. I'm having a hard time finding parts for the '62, especially suspension related. Does anyone know a good place online to order parts from?

Also, I'm trying to figure out someway to get an IFS. I looked at the crown vic swap, but it is too wide. Has anyone found a good replacement? Maybe something that would weld inplace of the stock front clip. I've got an old chevelle frame, but the front clip is about 1/2" too wide. I've seen all the aftermarket kits that are outrageously priced, but I was looking for something a little more economical.

I run a 62 F100 and have found that NAPA still carries a lot of stuff needed to keep rolling. Other suppliers are numerous, Carpenters, NPD, LMC, Joblots, Kanters, Egge, Macs, and Hemmings is always a good source book.

There are some members of this forum who are going the Crown Vikky route. I have a local friend who has a Camero suspension under the front of his. Another Friend who builds a sells pickups and the only thing he will use is the Mustang II front end conversions. All that being said, I run and intend to keep the stock straight axle under mine, but I am a bit old school and like the simplicity and ruggedness of the stock unit. Kept repaired and properly maintained, they are a good solid unit and very little problems. I have upgraded mine with Disk brakes, dual master cylinder, T5 tranny, and seat belts.

You can get alot of parts at most of the others too (cheaper), just takes a day or two for them to come in.

I have a 66 with a 72 Camaro subframe under the front, axle flip in the rear. Worked out well. 15X7 wheels on the front, standard offset, no problems.
