Change of plans... Going to twin turbo my 66!

Post by Poweradded66 »

Gents,

I am pretty excited now. I have acquired an AODE built to take 850 HP and am ditching my SC in favour of a twin turbo set-up now that I know it can handle the power.

Should be scarey!!!

Oh these trucks are a bad addiction!

I will show pictures for sure! For the past month or so I have been updating my avatar with the changes to the truck and engine etc...

Once I get back to the US at the end of the month I'll put together some gallery pictures.

Twin Hairdryers

Post by DCarr »

Which ECM are you planning to use ? Aftermarket units are pretty pricey! The great thing about slicks is the room for intercoolers ,blowoff valves, wastegates and all the other hairdryer paraphenalia.Keep us posted!

I have an A9L and complete harness. The nightmare will be in tuning this beast for a reliable street application. I'd love to be able take it to the race track but I don't want to cage it. I ran into the same problem with my old stangs.

The turbo route should be interesting cause I've never done it. I should have the kit in the next month or so and will mock it up in truck for all to see.

Have any members here done a turbo on their slick? I know its been done but I haven't found any forums.

Mine had a iron CJ headed 460 with a Cummins big rig turbo on it. The previous owner put it together and ran 6.10's with it. I liked the idea so I decided to turbo it also. I've decided on a 472 BBF and a 91mm T-6 flange turbo. I will use a Treadstone TR-12 intercooler and a blow thru carb.

I've got a tin turbo 351 based engine going in my '65 F-250 for pulling my dads '66 'stang around.

I started with the basic ebay 5.0 twin turbo kit, had the hot parts jet coated and got some good turbos (garrett 57mm, don't remember the a/r) when I get back I plan to run a 6.0 powerstroke innercooler in front of my factory radiator and dual e fans.

Stock intake manifold, custom ground cam and I will be running a blow thru carb with a procahrger carb hat, a ZF 5 speed manual trans w/ overdrive out of a '96 with a 351.

I am putting Wilwoods on all fours...

I have also decided it is going to have a four-link & IFS, both on air ride.

The truck is now going to cost much more than I wanted to spend on it originally but I guess that's the way most peoples projects go.

The DIY turbos are a cool way to go as well. There is a lot of good information on doing this in Turbo Forums.

I might go with a TT Cartech kit cause the company is currently located in Texas and has a long history. There are too many companies that pop up with kits and can't fill the orders a year down the road and are gone forever.

Kick some but overseas and keep us posted how your slick comes along when you get back.

The old set-up is in my sig. Judging from his E.t.'s and the weight of the truck he was putting around 900hp to the tires. I'm just starting on mine and like you I have a long way to go. I have the builder 460 torn down and ready to go to the machine shop. I'm planning to make around the same figures because I will be using a production block and crank. I'm closing on my new house in a couple weeks so everything is kinda on hold right now.
