Paint on Engine - 292

Post by hombre292 »

My truck is a '64 F100, with the 292. I'm getting ready to paint some places on my engine, where the paint is peeling off. A couple of questions.

What the best solvent or prep to use on the metal before I paint the engine? (so it will not peel again)

And what was the original color on the '64 292?

Thanks, Hombre

I have a 61 F100 with a 1955 292. The block color is a light grey with blue valve covers, however I don't know if that's the stock color or not.

Use a wax & grease remover available at body shop supply stores . Some ford engines were painted black with gold valve covers & air cleaner then. Sorry , I don,t remember the color of the 292 I pulled out of my 64. It was 30 years ago . I must have oldtimers.

All truck engines from 61-64 were painted black and the valve covers only were a reddish- orange color. The color "Ford Red" is available from Eastwood. All 65 engines were black with gold valve covers. In 66 the whole engines were painted "Ford Blue".

Thanks for the "refresher course". Jump starts the old brain. Yes my 292 was black with the red- orange valve covers-my 65 stang was black with gold.
