who installs wireing harnesses?
I hate wiring with a passion and terrible at it to boot. I would like to hire someone to rewire my truck( 65 short box) I have a flasher unit to wire in too. basically i want to drop off my truck and pick it up with brand new wiring end to end and everything work and pay someone for that service. would be willing to travel quite a few miles and stay a few days in a motel while its being done .Kind like a little road trip / vacation preferably next summer sometime. If anyone knows a pro or is a tallented wireing person who would like to make a buck next summer pm me. thanks guys and gals

First off Thug, welcome to the club!, I`d be only to happy to do that for you but a cheaper alternative would be easier to find I`m sure LOL , don`t you have Auto Electricians near where you live?. Maybe you could get Greg to break down near you and he could wire it for you! no just kidding!
. But seriously have a look at some of the wiring kits on offer like Painless wiring and others, they are fairly easy to install with instructions on how to install and with the kind of help you can get from this club ( mine not included! ) you`ll have it done by summer!

I went to painless and i almost had a panic attack just looking for the proper harness for a slick. LOL im telling you I just aint cut out for this . Ive rebuilt several motors and changed dozens of complete drive trains took bodies off chopped and fabricated body parts.installed windshields just put power steering on my slick which included shorting my steering column 3 inches all kind of weird stuff i cant even remember but anything more than changing a bulb or fuse just blows my mind. I BLAME THIS SYNDROME ON MY DAD HE GAVE ME A PAPER CLIP WHEN I WAS 3 AND SAID PUT THAT IN THE LIGHT SOCKET "THAT'LL LEARN YA" Then when i was older he would have me hold the spark plug wire as he started the truck so he could see if it was fireing. well i only fell for that one once LOL! PS I went to was down under in 1989 with the army landed in Sidney and drove in a convoy 50 mph for 700+ miles to Manbalue air strip in the middle of nowhere. I stayed 2 monthes in the desert and discovered i dont like vegimite and yall call crackers biscuts. LOL( fair suck of the save)

Can`t say I know where Manbulue air strip is!, but the middle of nowhere isn`t hard to find! been there lots. the vegemite thing is just a trick we play on people, Like hoofbeat racer/ Mark he had some at Slickstock this year, didn`t stop him singing tho
, so did you like it down here other than the Vegemite and the cracker thing?. We can just keep chatting until one of the clever ones come on and help you out!

Welcome to the club. I feel your pain on the vegemite. That stuff would take the stripes of a raccoon! Too bad you are so far away, wiring isn't that bad as long as the electrons stay in the wire where they belong. Sounds like you had a few get away on you.

OK Thug! I know where you were now!, that 700+ mile estimate you better add at least one zero to it, you were more than the middle of nowhere! you were even past the back of Bourke you were in the Donga! bet it was warm
. you must of landed in Darwin somewhere
not Sydney, that would be about 700 miles, glad you liked it tho.
Y'all come back now you hear!

That's a bit of a Brown-eyed mullet, from someone in a budgie-smuggler. He was like a cat burying a turd trying to give every Sheila within Cooee an earbashing about what a dunny rat he was. Unfortunately his Fossicking was not the full quid when his wife rocked up, and his days as a Spruiker were over.Alan Mclennan wrote:I don`t have an accent I just sound normal!, Alan,

I think it helps to be about 3 feet tall also when you need to get up under the dash! 6'4" I need to bend or pull the bench seat out.
I've had grimlins in the wiring ever since I finished my truck, the horn doesn't work even with a new wiring harness in the steering wheel, yes I know it's a ground problem just to damn lazy to start pulling things off, again and worst of all my heater motor doesn't work and I know it's just because I did not make a good connection with the 3 pronge that connects to the motor, just don't want to start pulling painted bolts off.
while I was at the Lone Star Nationals in Forth Worth I visited with the Painless guys, got some good poop, told who to talk to in their tech office and away I went with a bag of goodies so it's just up to me to seem if I can take the pain and rewire the old girl, just bothers me to not have everything working just right.
Live and learn, start right the first time and find a 3 foot friend!

that Aussie slang site does leave a lot out and it doesn't indicate the true feeling that some of the sayings mean!
like, the full quid is said as ( his not the full quid ) his simple!
a brown eyed mullet is a turd!

Re: who installs wireing harnesses?
It's funny how we each have our likes and dislikes with regard to our old vehicles. In the best cases we compliment each other and can trade one guy's talent in one area for another guy's talent somewhere else. I spent a good deal of my adult life as an aircraft electrician. I have the proper tools and I really enjoy re-wiring old vehicles. I'd never even think about paying somebody else to do electrical work on my old cars. I did my 55 wagon wire by wire! That said, I start sweating and I get sick to my stomach every time I think I hear my valves tapping in the old Y-Block! I'm terrified of internal engine work. I'll gladly pay somebody to repair/rebuild my engine if/when there's a problem...go figure!!65f100_Thug wrote:I hate wiring with a passion and terrible at it to boot. Wiring isn't that hard. It is time consuming though.
I used a universal harness from painless and spent more time running the wires than actuall hooking them up. A neat rick is to hook up a battery charger to the battery terminals to test circuits because at 1 amp, a short will trip the charger and not fry anything else.
