1962 F1000?

The real super duty trucks were introduced in 1958, not in the 90's with the f 450. The heaviest single axle was the F 1100 and the heaviest tandem axle was the T950. These are not modified car engines, they were built from the ground up as heavy duty truck engines. It was a time when big gas engines were the norm for heavy duty local trucks.The 401,477 and 534 engines came with a 100k warranty, and were designed to go 400,000 miles. In the mid 60's, the mid range diesels were made and got almost twice the mileage with less maintenance.Big gas engines started to dissapear for economic reasons.But the 534 engine was still used up till the 80's.

There was a 477 in a truck around here. About an acre of intake manifold, and 'way out in the middle sat a little Holley 94 carb! How that thing ever got above an idle was beyond me!
By the way, I think it was the 1150 or 3150 Cat that used the Ford block, not the 3208.

The super duty engines 401 477 534 were all low compression low rpm engines to last longer.These trucks could be ordered with 15,000 lb front axles and 29,000 lb rear single axles, Spicer and Fuller transmissions also auxillary transmissions and full air brakes. These trucks were very popular in the construction industry back in the day.

I originally wanted one of those big inch "Y" blocks for my Uni. Even spent some time looking for one I am sure you can all figure out the reasons I gave up on that one.
That cab would be very cool on a late model semi frame, but I am sure some of you knew that was coming, lol.

It is sad to witness the deevolution of the heavy Ford truck line over the last 10 years. Today the largest truck is an F 750.A drop in the bucket, compared to what was available in the 60's.

I see one of those C-series with a big 534 run past my office window several times daily, The guy has his own dumpster business in competition with Waste Management. I wonder how he makes any money running that ol' gas guzzler, but he MUST.. he even made his own bins

Cool to see it still in daily operation tho.

i see you are setting yourself up for the next 20 years of slick projects.

was just thinking about my f500 4x4, the uni did not work for the crew idea because i do not want to alter the frame but another cab and seperate bed will work,so then i get to thinking why use junk, 2 good cabs is the way to go.

I need to find a school bus for the frame & drive train. So I have a long big crew. That way I can carry 2 vehicles at once & with a trailer 3 total. Watch out SS4.
