Can anybody identify the 2 I am not sure about:
Trans ID----trans pilot---Thrust Brg dia---- input spline---input extension
T86-1N-------4.68"------------1.75"-------------1.37" X 10-------7"
T85N ---------4.81" -----------1.43"-------------1" x 10-------6.5"
T86-----------4.68"------------1.43"-------------1" X 10-------6"
All 3 have a .67 dia pilot shaft on the input
The last one in the list is out of a 56 car with a 292. I know because I pulled it and it is a spare for my 56 sedan which also has a T86
I was told the 1st one was out of a 64 Ford Truck???????
I was told the 2nd one was out of a 71 Ford truck.????. It also has the butterfly bolt pattern (8 holes for old and new )
I want to put the T85 in my 64 F100 (currently has a 303) but I am not sure of the input shaft length. The T85 also has a fixed output yolk,.
Appreciate the help.

The T-85N is a truck transmission. I have one in my 65 F-100 with 390 engine, which is a direct bolt in. Im not familiar with the 64 and earlier trucks but you should easily be able to swap in an FE with that T-85. Just use the clutch set up for your year truck, it will mount right up. You might have to get a clutch plate to match. Some one else can tell you what you need to do to swap in the engine.
Also note, the later wide bolt pattern trans normally came with a different front bearing support that will not fit a 64 and older bellhousing. Fortunately all you have to do is swap the support from an earlier BW trans and it will work fine. Can't help on the length beyond the fact that I have seen some with longer pilots for the front bearing but the splined part was the same. If this is the case them you can drop your trans and clutch and see how deep the hole is in the crank. It may fit fine. With the clutch out you can install the trans and see if it fits. Hawkrod
