jeff, next time you are at the parts store get bulbs that look just like yours but say halogen across the glass but check your truck it may already have them.jeffw wrote:jwh f-100 wrote:Cool Jeff.![]()
What's also cool is if you do not have halogen bulbs in your truck you can get a even bigger improvement for another $10.00 bucks.
another 10.00 clams?? fill me in,, also I have the regular headlights in right now and one died on the spot, it was dim to begin with,
Mine were about 5 bucks each at NAPA.
I THINK H6024 is the number you want

question about relays
Ive been wanting to do this mod for quite some time, I have the schematic and the instructions from the this)Dane's garage) site. But I'm confused about a few things.
Do I need to install the two 20 amp fuses? I thought the headlight swithch was the fuse.
I just installed a Ron Francis Wiring Kit and I have 2 extra fuses there as well, cna i use those?
I found the relays, but I/m having a heard time finding a 2 fuse block for the 20 amps.
After all the time spent re-wiring my truck, who badly will I have to destroy the headlight connector wiring?

Re: question about relays
i added the extra switch in mine so i can have both high and low beams on at the same time.cosmo115 wrote:Ive been wanting to do this mod for quite some time, I have the schematic and the instructions from the this)Dane's garage) site. But I'm confused about a few things.

yes, the headlight switch has a circuit breaker but you need to fuse the power to the relays

as long as they are hot wired from the battery

you can use inline fuse holders or circuit breakers, any auto parts will have them

you do not need to destroy anything, just remove and replace/splice a shown in the article

Re: question about relays
Yes two 20amp fuses need to be installed on two 12ga. wires giong from the battery to terminal #30 on the two relays.cosmo115 wrote:Ive been wanting to do this mod for quite some time, I have the schematic and the instructions from the this)Dane's garage) site. But I'm confused about a few things.

You do not need to make any changes to the headlight switch or dimmer switch but the two headlight wires (high & low) coming from the dimmer switch need to go to terminal 85 on the relays (one to each). Take note to wich is high and low. If the lights are backwards when you are all done just switch the two "terminal 85 wires".
Then two 14ga. wires will be hooked to each relay on terminal # 87 ( two lows & two highs) One wire from each terminal # 87 will go to each headlight ( a low and a high for each light).
Last thing would be to just ground both #86 terminals.

LMC sells the kits. cheap like borscht ,almost everyone at SS picked one up. You probably couldn't build it yourself for that cheap, and it's plug and play. The instructions are in Chinglish and a good laugh as a bonus.
Ask Doug or Mike Kimbrell.

It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
Just to repeat what I have said several times though the years, in case anyone is wondering. Sealed beam 6024 halogen bulbs don't take any more juice than the old style bulbs did. Also, you cannot even buy a non-halogen sealed beam these days, unless you go through a place like LMC or DC. Finally, the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs actually take LESS juice than a standard halogen, so I think they are a very good choice if replaceing lights even without the relay upgrade.
I have a rare, fully intact wireing harness and pretty pristine engine bay, so I didn't like the idea of relays and what not. What I DID do, is take every single connection apart, clean them up and re-assemble with dielectric grease. And a new, american made, headlight switch. My lights are really quite acceptable. Just my experience -- I am sure the relay is better still but you CAN get by with the original setup too....

the cool thing about those style headlight harnesses is that there is no cutting of the stock harness. like jc said, they are truely plug and play.

I just bought these for my Uni - they are tribars, have turn signals (removeable) and Blue Dots to go with my tail lights! Only 6 pair left now! Oh and yes I want the turn signals in them. I'll be mounting driving lights in my grill where the turn signals are now.
These are perfect if you have a 65-66 and want to ditch the stock turn signals and use a 61-64 valance. Makes for a very "Slick" look find a pic of the front Kid's 65, he went this route.
