SLICK ON THE COVER?

Post by john gilbert »

I heard a rumor there's a '65 Ford on the cover of April 09 Custom Classic Trucks. If any of you subscribe to CCT, please let me know when it starts showing up. Believe it or not, mine has been getting here late.

Thanks,

Funny you mention it John. I was going to post this fact. Nice yellow stepside w/flames on the cover and a South American split Uni in the readers rides.
I only subscribe to two mags anymore Classic Trucks and Custom Classic Trucks.
Nice work John !

Are those still pretty good mags to get? I used to subscribe yeeeeeears ago when I had my '65 on the road, then once I lost it, I never renewed and sold all my old issues.

I also used to subscribe to Street Trucks, but they changed hands and got a whole new editing crew and things just went the way of Truckin' mag with the lowered minis and not much classic iron anymore.

They are pretty good mags. Of course, there is alot of stuff I'm not interested in but I read the whole thing. Simply because I enjoy grabbing knowledge! I figure for a lousy couple bucks a month, there is always something to learn. Even an article on switching a 6-lug Chevy rear to a 5-lug might have something I can use in my situation.
Thinking about a Sunday paper (cost equal) I read maybe 1/2 hrs worth and throw the rest away.
I used to get a few other mags that went the tuner/advertisement route. I let them know how I felt and then promptly dumped the subscription.
I find these two mags still have a balanced content.
I am also not one of those" I hate Chevies/Mopars/etc" I appreciate the quality of work and thinking that goes into a vehicle, no matter what it is.
Well I ranted enough about this subject---and NO , I don't work for a mag-just an old truck driver. LOL

I'm the same way. I can appreciate any vehicle that someone has put work and time into. I may bleed Ford blue, but I'm just a gearhead and love anything with a rumbly V8 and classic truck smell.

I get Hot Rod and Car Craft, too. Dad likes to call it Chevy Craft, but he still reads it and grabs it from the mail before I have a chance to read it. Then I moved and they forwarded my mail and he asked where the mags went.

I got mine about a week ago and read it straight through. That cover truck has a lot of neat touches on it. Every time I go back and look I find something I missed. Check out the outside and inside door handles. Also he has done a nice job on the dash and guage area.
Looks like he spent a lot of time on it. Yellow definitely is not my choice of colors, but a very nice truck just the same.
The red split Uni is a cool ride. Wonder if we could recruit that fella for our South American Uni connection! The Y block in that truck is BITCHIN".

Thanks you guys. My box of 'em finally showed up. I have some I can mail out if anyone can't find a copy at Wal-Mart, Borders, or where ever.

Sorry I can't do this for Canadians or anyone outside of the US, I have to fill out a bunch of forms, and its a real hassle to send freebies out of the country... not to mention it costs a bunch of money.

Let me know,

For you guys that are CCT subscribers, you'll get a kick out of the June issue. Matt Stone he's the editor of Motor Trend and he just got a wrongbed Slick from a friend he grew up with for $300.00 maybe it was #200.00. Anyway I thought it was pretty cool the editor of Motor Trend has a Slick so I did two pages on it. There's one picture where it is brand-new.

It's kind of ugly now.

slick cover truck

Post by azratrod »

i thought the yellow truck was a little ugly. almost too fancy. maybe it should have been in sport truck magazine. the argentine truck has a few posts on utube that are pretty cool. hearing and seeing the motor running on video makes it seem like the motor might have that much power

Yeah, the trucks that make it on to the cover are a different animal. After years and years of doing this Rob at Classic Trucks and myself at CCT we already both know which trucks will do best. Then there are trucks that have never been on a cover, so you find the brightest one you can find and see what happens. My November cover with the red '57 F-100 with a Cobra motor was a great truck, but it didn't do well. It was the first time in CCT's 15 years on the stands that a '57 F-100 made the cover. The '65 F-100 on CCT's April cover was a first, but I don't know how well it will do.

The sad truth is the best selling cover for CCT this entire year was a '54 F-100 with a Chevy motor, and the green '56 F-100 with a Chevy in it did real well for Classic Trucks.

I just try to keep the best mix of trucks in CCT that I can, and hope the darn thing sells.
