Breaking the new years res

Post by Demonknight »

Saw an add months ago on a white 86 F150 with a 300I6, at that time I was looking to beef UP my 66 F250, not making her "lighter", Ideas came and went with me and a coworker throwing ideas at each other and the base idea was a straight 6 built for speed/fuel econ.

Ran into the add again yesterday and called the guy, price had dropped to $400 so I called and set a time to go see it today...well after looking at it and him showing me the problems with it I offered $300 cash and he jumped on it, fast enough I wonder just what he didn't show me :D

problems I know about, needs a new master for the brakes, ignition switch (something about those and the fords I buy) and new batt wires are needed..

Good things, the 300 fired right up and sounded nice, duel fuel tanks, bodys in good enough shape I should be able to part it out later and sell it. Comes with 3 spare tires and has decent tread on the tires. Also comes with a free set of pads (they bought new ones before they found out it was the MC that was bad)

For $300 it's hard to loose at that.

Once you've got it in your yard, fire the 300 back up and do a compression check, that'll tell you if it'll be worth your while to simply swap it into your Slick or if you should do a 're-fresh' on it first.

Good Luck!

Sooo...what was the New Year's resolution? To not bite at carrots dangled in front of you?

Congrats, it sounds like you did pretty well on that deal.
My "Slickitis" affliction began here...

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!

 The resolution was to NOT bring more toys home...too many as it is.

And I figure I can drive it as the 86 while I do the body work on the 66... One idea we have been toying with is to convert it to propane which likes a higher compression (apx13:1), so rebuild would be in order to take it from stock 8.4:1..if I remember my stats on the 300
