About lowering a slick.

Hello.

My name is Jan and is a 44 years old guy in sweden. I just bought a -66 F250 Twin I-Beam. It has 390 and three on a tree, Holley 600 and headders. Has had a lot of american cars but must have missed this model and I just love the car. Now over to the question. I will lovering the car all around, but is a little unsure about how to to in the front. Know there are expensive parts to buy but my load of money is smal. Want the car as low as it is possible

There are only a few options here for your 66. First off do you want it lowered just a little bit or a lot? If a little then they make 3 inch dropped beams for these trucks and that is all you can do to the front. You CANNOT put dropped springs or else the alignment will be way off. For the back you can go with the hangers for about 2-4 inches or a flip kit which is around 5 inches if I remember correctly.
If you want a big drop then you will need a new IFS like a Mustang II kit or some kind of clip from a Volare, Dodge Dakota, Camaro, etc and that is a lot of time and money. For the back you have a TON of options. 4 link, ladder bars, air bags, flip kit with a C notch in the frame, de arch the leaf springs, lowered leaf springs and hanger kit, etc.

Don't worry to much about your english, we might give you a hard time but we are just kidding around...All in good fun.

Shawn F. is right, The front is easy if you just want 2.5"-3". Doing stuff with the springs is a bad Idea (if you want to DRIVE it low) if you want to just have it low for the show then you could put air bags on the front and just air them up to the propper height to drive.

If you want low there are some options. A lot of guys are putting the trucks on Crown Victoria frames (crown vic, or CV) this involves a lot of body work and welding to the body. Others have put Aerostar IFS (Frod Minivan) on with a small amount of welding, this is not a bad option, I just don't know if the Aerostar springs can take the weight of the FE. I am going with a Dodge Dakota (pickup) IFS that one of the members here (ELpolacko) makes a weld in crossmember for. You can also go the Mustang II rought. (car, very common) if you do you should go through Fat Man they have the proper geometry and stiffness to work with these heavy trucks.

I wish I could afford that Dakota front end and 4 link rear with air bags all the way around... Maybe one day in 5 years? LOL If I could do all that under 4000 bucks then I would but it would cost probably 8000 total I am sure with the compressors, lines, gauges, bags, 4 link, wheels and tires I want, etc.

Lol.. The guy I bougt it from was a carpainter and got kicked from his garage and have no place to put his Slick.. so he put all parts together in a hurry and placed the car at his mothers house.And next week she sold the house so he was in a kind of hurry to get rid of the car..Everything was loose.. And then I come and put some swedish crowns under his nose ..lol. .. but hinges there will be

Lowering the 65 to 79s needs new dropped beams or dropped stock beams.

Or A new crossmember for the Dakota. Theres a 65 to 79 sitting on the fab bench now........

Dropped Twin I stock beams are in the future.

Wondering if the 8-bolts axels are easyli to change to 5-bolts. Or do everything need to be changed?

F250 Spindles share the same king pinsas the f100 150s 66 to 79 so five lug spindles in 5 on 5 1/2" will fit. Also adds dics brakes the easy way.

The Rear Spicer will need to be replaced with a nine inch or dana to get the same pattern. Early width may be hard to find but a later one will work with relocated spring perches.

That was nice to hear. Found one of these in a local junkyard. But think I need powerbrakes whit discs. Which years?
In the back I´m thinkin of one nine inch from some late sixties. Just need to find out width.
